Results:  Greater Cleveland  /  Kent State  /  Raider Open

On Friday night, the Blue Streaks piled up plenty of points to place second among six teams competing in the Greater Cleveland Colleges Meet.

Baldwin-Wallace College won the meet with 171 while JCU finished as runner-up with 145 points, besting the likes of Case Reserve (133), Oberlin (74.50), Notre Dame (63.50) and Lake Erie (56).

Bill Zaccardelli brought home the lone title from the meet with his win in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.90. He also placed second in the 55-meter dash (6.61).

But in both cases, John Carroll's depth raked in the points. In the 200-meter event, Zaccardelli was joined in the top eight by Bryan Wideman (3rd, 23.32), Anthony Colbert (4th, 23.51), Tony Mihalich (5th, 23.89) and David Hickey (6th, 23.89).

It was a similar story in the 55-meter dash, where Wideman (3rd, 6.74), Drew Krainz (5th, 6.93), Matt Mihalic (6th, 6.99) and Jason Robinson (7.17) all raced in the final.

Throughout the sprints, Blue Streaks could be found. In the 400-meter dash, Spencer German earned a third place finish (54.90). Hickey (3rd, 1:08.14), Colbert (4th, 1:09.18), and Tony Mihalich (5th, 1:09.28) all were top five placers in the 500-meter run.

JCU also had three finalists in the 55-meter hurdles, led by Denny Love's second place effort of 8.26 seconds. Mike Hlatky (5th, 8.53 – 8.39 in prelims) and Matt Szep (7th, 9.35 – 8.46 in prelims) also ran in the final.

The middle distances were also a help to the JCU point total. Evan Bellan was second in the 1,00-meter run (2:55.64), Aaron Sharp was fifth in the one-mile run (4:39.91) and John Jackson was seventh in the 800-meter run (2:03.10).

JCU had high placing relays as well. The 4 x 200 quartet of Wideman, Love, Matt Mihalich and Krainz placed second in 1:35.92, while the 4 x 400 foursome of Jackson, Szep, Ian Johnson and Chris Charlillo placed third in 3:38.03.

In the high jump, Hlatky was the runner-up by clearing 6-4 (1.93 meters). Kyle Fiegel was up to the task as well in the long jump and triple jump. He was second in the long jump event with a mark of 20-1 1/2 (6.13 meters), and led a trio of top four placers in the triple with his runner-up mark of 40-00 3/4. Hlatky was third at 39-11 1/4 (12.17 meters) while Stephen Kedzuf was fourth with the same mark, separated only by the number of attempts needed to make that distance.

On Saturday, a select number of Streaks were divided in meets at Kent State and Mount Union. At the Kent State Tune-Up, Pat Burns (2:39.38) finished 13th and Jake Smith (2:40.13) finished 14th in the 1,000-meter run.

At the Raider Open, Mike Minjock and RK Glover had a pair of top ten finishes. Minjock was third in the long jump (21-10 3/4 - 6.67 meters) and sixth in the triple jump (42-3 1/4 - 12.88 meters), while Glover was third in the triple jump (44-1 1/2 - 13.45 meters) and fourth in the long jump (21-7 1/4 - 6.58 meters).
