Blue Streaks Earn Upper Division Finish At Bill Van Horne Track & Field Invitational

Maureen Creighton led off the 4 x 400 relay as part of a personal 21-point day at the 2010 Bill Van Horne Invitational
John Carroll was a late entrant into the 2010 Bill Van Horne Invitational hosted by Wheeling Jesuit University Saturday, but proof that better is late than never the Blue Streaks secured an upper division finish in the 17-team field.

JCU tallied a total of 49 points to place eighth overall. Malone won the team title with 121.7 points.

Results

Maureen Creighton (Kenmore, NY, Nardin) had a big day, as she ran the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.58 to place second and the 400-meter dash in 1:00.10 to earn fifth place.

Kelly Grieve (Toledo, OH, Sylvania Southview) also posted a second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her time of 12:20.08. Tricia Doherty (Chicago, IL, Marist) also scored points with her fifth place showing in the 5,000-meter run (18:58.48).

The relays for the Blue Streaks fared well. The 4 x 100 relay of Stephanie Charlillo (Strongsville, OH, Magnificat) Creighton, Maura Stepanski (Tampa, FL, Tampa Catholic) and Maribeth Keppler (Cleveland, OH, Holy Name) finished fourth in 51.70. The 4 x 400 quartet of Creighton, Keppler, Ryann Smith (Lisle, IL, Benet Academy) and Tara Knight (Cortland, OH, Maplewood) earned fifth place in a time of 4:16.49.

Brittany Musa (Madison, OH, Madison) earned third place in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.50 meters, while Stepanski tied for sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.91 meters. Both competitors figured into the mix in the long jump where Musa placed sixth (4.87 meters), just behind Stepanski's fourth place showing (4.89 meters).
