Szolosi battled the snowy conditions and still put down a 17:22.9 to claim the regional title. The Athens, Ohio, standout separated from a tight lead pack in the final mile to finish roughly eight seconds ahead of runner-up Emma Hoffman of Michigan.
Szolosi ran patiently early, tucking into a group of top Midwest contenders through a fast opening mile of 5:34. She remained in control at two miles, passed in 11:07, before making a decisive move over the final stretch to secure the win.
The performance continues a standout fall for Szolosi, who already owns an Ohio state cross country title. Her victory in Kenosha showed that her strength and racing instincts translate beyond state competition, as she beat a field featuring multiple state champions and national-caliber runners from across the region.
By winning the Midwest Championship, Szolosi qualified for the Brooks XC Championships, scheduled for Dec. 13 in San Diego. There, she will face other regional champions and top finishers from the Northeast, South, and West in one of the deepest high school cross-country fields in the country.
Szolosi heads to the historic Balboa Park as one of the top athletes to watch.
