Marietta women retain title and men place third at OAC Gold Meet

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College track and field team hosted four of its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rivals for the fourth annual OAC Gold Meet Saturday (April 3) afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium. [Results]

A 42-point day from sophomore standout Lauren Asbury (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., Greenbrier East), combined with a complete team-effort, led the Pioneer women to a 188.50 points and a victory in the competition for the second straight year. Marietta's men received a balanced contribution from its student-athletes to finish with 107 points and placed third, matching their performance from 2009.

Mount Union took runner-up with 144 points in the women's competition. Baldwin-Wallace finished third with 140 points, John Carroll placed fourth with 83.50 points and Muskingum was fifth with 23 points. Mount Union collected 144 points to win the men's competition for the third time in four years. John Carroll placed second with 118 point, 2009 champion Baldwin-Wallace was fourth with 105 points and Muskingum took fifth with 97 points. Both the men and women competed in 19 scored events as well as an exhibition Hammer Throw.

Asbury's 42-point day included four individual events as well as one relay race. The sophomore won the 100m Dash with a personal record time of 12.75 seconds. She took runner-up in both the 200m Dash, crossing the line in 27.12 seconds, and 100m Hurdles, finishing a season's best 16.14 seconds. Asbury then placed third in the 400m Hurdles with a personal record time of 1:09.54. She closed her day by teaming with sophomore Brittany Sims (Columbus, Eastmoor Academy), sophomore Corryn Muench (Cold Spring, Ky., Newport Central Catholic) and senior Christi Tims (Olmsted Township, Olmsted Falls) to win the 4x100m Relay after crossing the line in 49.61 seconds.

Muench, Tims, Sims and sophomore Kristeva Rowe (Toledo, Sylvania Southview) combined to win the 4x400m Dash with a season's best time of 4:05.39. Tims added a pair of third place finishes in individual events. She crossed the line of the 200m Dash in 27.20 seconds and then finished the 400m Dash in 1:01.92. Sims also won the 400m Hurdles by covering the lap in 1:05.87, while Muench took second in the event with a personal record time of 1:06.92. Rowe also finished runner-up in the 400m Dash after crossing the line in 1:00.90.

Sophomore Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls, Chagrin Falls) improved her NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark in the Pole Vault on Saturday. She won the event after clearing a school record 3.66m (12-00.00). Keesler also finished runner-up in the High Jump with a personal record mark of 1.48m (4-10.25) and took seventh in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.92m (16-01.75).

Sophomore Ashley Bault (Atwater, Waterloo) collected a pair of individual victories as well as runner-up finish at the OAC Gold Meet. She won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.53m (5-00.25) and captured the Triple Jump with a leap of 11.03m (36-02.25). Bault also finished second in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.50m (18-00.50).

Freshman Jacci Weaver (North Lima, South Range) won the Shot Put with a top mark of 11.88m (38-11.75). She also set a new school record in the Discus Throw and took fifth with a toss of 37.99m (124-08).

Senior Stephanie Williams (Vincent, Warren Local) took second in the 3,000m Steeplechase with a personal record time of 12:26.85.

Junior Olivia Holiday (Malta, Morgan) placed runner-up in the Pole Vault by matching a season high mark of 3.20m (10-06.00).

Junior Stephanie Hammond (Toledo, Central Catholic) finished second in the Hammer Throw with a personal record mark of 42.19m (138-05).

Senior Sarita Dhiraprasiddhi (Hilliard, Darby) claimed third in the Triple Jump with leap of 10.22m (33-06.50).

Junior Nikki Stone (Madison, Madison), the reigning OAC Field Athlete of the Week, gave Marietat's women another top-three finisher when she took third in the Javelin Throw with a throw of 34.63m (113-07).

Junior Matt Hickman (St. Mary's, W.Va., St. Mary's) helped Marietta's men collect 30 points on Saturday. He won the 100m Dash with a season's best time of 10.96 seconds and the 200m Dash after crossing the line in 22.62 seconds. Hickman also combined with freshman Willam McCulloch (Nelsonville, York), junior Anthony Williams (Columbus, Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Ryan Householder (Frazeysburg, Tri-Valley) to win the 4x100m Dash with a season's best time of 42.33 seconds.

Williams added a second place finish in the 400m Dash. He crossed the line in a season's best time of 40.53.

Senior Cody Thomas (North Olmsted, North Olmsted) ran to a victory in the 800m Run. Thomas finished the two laps in a season's best time of 1:59.24.

Senior Josh Mickle (Madison, Madison) and freshmen Caleb Muller (Columbus, Bexley) placed second and third, respectively, in the 1,500m Run on Saturday. Mickle crossed the line in 4:11.06, while Muller followed closely in 4:12.28.

Thomas, Mickle, Muller and freshman Caleb Ellis (St. Albans, W.Va., St. Albans) won the 4x800m Relay with a combined time of 8:15.99.

Sophomore Terrance Wallace (Westerville, Westerville Central) finished runner-up in the 5,000m Run after running a time of 16:27.65.

Junior James Vogt (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.)took third place in the 110m Hurdles, finishing in a season's best 16.84 seconds.

Senior Michael Siringer (Willowick, Willoughby South) nearly won the 3,000m Steeplechase. He finished in second with a personal record performance of 9:59.60.

Sophomore Mike Pankowski (Pittsburgh, Pa., Woodland Hills) added a runner-up finish in the Javelin Throw when he had a season's best throw of 56.34m (184-10).

Marietta is back in action Saturday (April 10) afternoon when the Pioneers host the Don Frail Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
