Sam Staab ran the anchor leg for John Carroll's runner-up 4 x 800 relay at the OAC Gold Meet
John Carroll's fourth place showing in the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Gold Meet Saturday at Marietta was fueled by one title and four runner-up finishes.
Results
Marietta won the team title with 188.50 points, followed by Mount Union (144), Baldwin-Wallace (140), John Carroll (83.50) and Muskingum (23).
The meet, which featured the five schools from the eastern half of the state of Ohio, was staged at Marietta College's Don Drumm Stadium.
Emily Tillmaand (Xenia, OH, Xenia) supplied John Carroll its only first place finish when she won the 1,500-meter run in 5:02.16.
Several other Blue Streaks had near misses as far as titles were concerned.
Ashley Aberl was second in the 5,000-meter run (18:58.10), while
Brittany Musa (Madison, OH, Madison) tied for second in the high jump by clearing 1.48 meters (4-10 1/4).
John Carroll's other two runner-up efforts were in relay races. In the 4 x 400, the quartet of
Maribeth Keppler (Cleveland, OH, Holy Name),
Tara Knight (Cortland, OH, Maplewood),
Ryann Smith (Lisle, IL, Benet Academy) and
Maura Stepanski (Tampa, FL, Tampa Catholic) were clocked in a time of 4:20.73. The 4 x 800 relay of
Megan Lutz (Oil City, Pa, Venango Catholic),
Kelly Grieve (Toledo, OH, Sylvania Southview),
Andrea Brown (Bethel Park, PA, Bethel Park ) and
Samantha Staab (Bellville, OH, Clear Fork) placed second in 10:34.67.
Other scoring efforts in the track events were turned in by
Stephanie Charlillo (Strongsville, OH, Magnificat) (4th in 200-meter dash, 27.81), Keppler (4th in the 400-meter dash, 1:03.85), Knight (6th in the 400-meter dash, 1:05.82), Lutz (3rd in the 800-meter run, 2:26.65), Tillmaand (4th in the 5,000-meter run, 19:22.54),
Katherine Spillman (Columbus, OH, Bexely) (6th in the 5,000-meter run, 19:44.20) and Grieve (3rd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, 12:37.26).
In the field events, Stepanski and
Alicia Giannell (Perry, OH, Perry) both turned in a pair of scoring performances. Stepanski tied for third in the long jump (5.13 meters / 16-10) and fourth in the triple jump (10.08 meters / 33-01), while Giannell was sixth in the long jump (5.00 meters / 16-5) and tied for fifth in the triple jump (10.05 meters / 32-11 3/4).
