The John Carroll women's track team worked hard for all 56 points they scored Saturday afternoon in Alliance, Ohio, placing sixth out of 11 teams at the 2010 Mount Union College Invitational.

Results

Like their male counterparts, the contingent of triple jumpers had a solid day. Maura Stepanski (Tampa, FL, Tampa Catholic)covered a distance of 10.15 meters to finish second, while teammate Cassandra Figueroa was fifth with her mark of 9.67 meters.

Katie Manjerovic (Pittsburgh, PA, North Hills) picked up a fourth place showing by hurling the javelin 32.21 meters.

On the track side, it was the 1,500-meter run that provided one of top highlights for the Blue Streaks, as JCU occupied finishes four through seven. Ashley Aberl(5:03.25), Emily Tillmaand (Xenia, OH, Xenia) (5:04.46), Tricia Doherty (Chicago, IL, Marist) (5:08.00) and Megan Lutz (Oil City, Pa, Venango Catholic) (5:11.51) collectively racked up 12 points in this event.

Lutz and Aberl also scored in the 800-meter run. Lutz placed fifth in a time of 2:25.26, while Aberl crossed the finish line in eighth place with a time of 2:27.72

Maureen Creighton (Kenmore, NY, Nardin) had a pair of fifth place showings in her day. She was clocked at 13.12 in the 100-meter dash and 26.79 in the 200-meter dash.

Brittany Musa (Madison, OH, Madison) also had a strong showing in the 100-meter hurdles, taking seventh place in a time of 18.17. In the 400-meter hurdles, Ryann Smith (Lisle, IL, Benet Academy) ended up in the scoring with her eighth place effort (1:12.36).

Malone (137 points) edged Mount Union (124) for the team title. John Carroll scored 56 points to finish two points behind fifth place Ursuline (56).
