Falcons Finish Fourth At Ohio Women's Team Challenge

Sun, Apr, 11 | Women's Track and Field

MEET RESULTS

For the third time in three outdoor meets and the sixth time in 2010, senior Sabrina Forstein won the pole vault as the Bowling Green State University track and field team completed a fourth-place showing at the Ohio University Women's Team Challenge on Saturday.

Forstein, a native of Geneva, Ohio, has competed in the pole vault eight times this year, and she has finished first or second in seven of those attempts.  On Saturday, Forstein achieved a mark of 3.50 meters.

Joining Forstein in winning top honors at the Women's Team Challenge were two other Falcons,  Junior Heather Conger posted a 2010 outdoor team best time of 4:40.23 in the 1500 meters and won the event by two seconds.  In the 5000 meters, sophomore Ashley Fischer also compiled a team best time for the 2010 outdoor season.

In fact, Fischer's time of 17:55.98 was 20 seconds better than her nearest competition, as the Falcons swept the top three places in that event (Abby Koch, 2nd; Barbara Powers, 3rd).

There were several other personal- and season-bests scattered throughout the Falcons' results from Saturday's competition.

In the field events, Brooke McCombs set a personal best mark of 12.55 meters as she placed fourth in the shot put.  McCombs also finished second (42.07m) in the discus and sixth (44.23m) in the hammer throw.

Sophomore Ashley Harris and freshman Kristin Boettcher also netted points in those three events for BGSU.  Boettcher's second place finish in the hammer throw (48.75m) scored seven points, while Harris compiled a total of seven points with sixth- and seventh-place finishes in the discus and shot put, respectively.

Bowling Green native Paige Lane set a season best mark of 34.92 meters while placing fourth in the javelin; her throw scored five points for the Orange and Brown.

Junior Brittani McNeal helped the Falcon cause by coming in fourth in the long jump, with a leap of 5.56 meters.

During the track portion of the meet, McNeal further added to BGSU's endeavors by completing a third place run in the 200 meters.  Her time of 25.23s was less than six-tenths of a second behind the winner.  Felicia Jefferson and Allison Weimer also were in the top ten, coming in sixth and seventh place.

In the 100 meter dash, freshman Jeanette Pettigrew finished in 12.22 seconds and earned second place, which scored another seven points for the Falcons.  Jessica Grant earned four more by placing fifth in a tightly bunched field, with a time of 12.37.

BGSU's 4x400 meter relay team of Danielle Thornton, Saisha Gaillard, Heather Conger and Gillian Allan finished third.  Thornton, a senior from Luckey, Ohio, set a personal best time in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.28.

Paige Lane, who (as noted above) set a season-best mark in the javelin, also recorded a personal best time in the 400 meters.  Lane's mark of 1:02.93 earned two points for Bowling Green.

As a team, the Falcons earned a total of 145 points to secure their fourth place finish.  Ohio University (219 points) won the event.

The Falcons will return to Athens, Ohio and the campus of Ohio University next weekend for the All-Ohio Championships, which will be held on Friday, April 16th and Saturday, April 17th.
