In an event where points are at a premium, John Carroll amassed its fair share to finish in sixth place out of 19 teams competing at the 2010 All-Ohio Championships Saturday at Selby Field and the George Gauthier Track on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
Results
Helping rake in a lion's share of those premium points was
David Hickey (Stow, OH, Akron St. Vincent - St. Mary), who emerged as an All-Ohio champion in the 400-meter hurdles. He posted a winning time of 54.32 to become JCU's lone All-Ohio champ of 2010.
Matt Szep (Westlake, OH, St. Ignatius) finished sixth in the same event with a time of 56.89.
The tandem of
Mike Minjock (Seven Hills, OH, St. Ignatius) and
RK Glover (Wayzata, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's Academy) aided the cause as well. In the long jump, Minjock was the All-Ohio runner-up (6.63 meters) and Glover placed sixth 96.44 meters). In the triple jump, Glover claimed fifth place (13.20 meters) while Minjock finish in eighth (12.90 meters).
Another jumper,
Michael Hlatky (Brooklyn Heights, OH, Cleveland St. Ignatius), fared well in the high jump as he placed fifth by clearing 1.90 meters.
Matt Najdovsky continued his outstanding spring by placing eighth in the javelin (46.69 meters).
Ohio Wesleyan (143 points) finished well ahead of Heidelberg (108) to claim the team title. John carroll tallied 38 points for its sixth place effort.
