Giannell Title And Strong Relay Showing Have Streaks Upbeat After Sparky Adams Meet

Ryann Smith was part of one of John Carroll's high placing relay quartets at the 2010 Sparky Adams Invitational
A title by Alicia Giannell and a pair of top four showings by the sprint relays had the John Carroll women's track & field team feeling upbeat following the conclusion of the 2010 Sparky Adams Invitational hosted Saturday by Baldwin-Wallace College at George Finnie Stadium in Berea.

Results

Giannell continued her efforts to regain the form that made her a national qualifier in 2009. Putting injuries behind her, Giannell claimed the title in the triple jump with a mark of 10.44 meters.

For good measure, Giannell also posted a fourth place showing with a distance of 5.02 meters in the long jump.

Two other field event athletes earned top ten finishes in the unscored meet. Cassandra Figueroa was eighth in the triple jump (9.29 meters), while Brittany Musa was eighth in the high jump (1.50 meters).

In the track events, Maureen Creighton placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.44), while the duo of Ashley Aberl (6th, 4:52.91 - season best) and Emily Tillmaand (9th, 4:56.38 - season best) both notched top tens in the 1,500-meter run.

The relays John Carroll fielded also provided some highlights. In the 4 x 100 race, the quartet of Stephanie Charlillo, Creighton, Maura Stepanski and Maribeth Keppler turned in a season best time of 50.08 in placing third.

The 4 x 400-meter relay of Katie Skelly, Ryann Smith, Tara Knight and Megan Lutz placed fourth in 4:22.44.
