Falcons Split Squad For Two Meets This Week

As they begin serious preparations for the Mid-American Conference outdoor championships, the Bowling Green State University track and field team will send athletes to both Toledo and Columbus this week for separarte meets.

On Thursday, April 29th and Friday, April 30th, a group of Falcons will travel north for the Toledo Invitational.  At this meet, the Orange and Brown will face athletes from 22 other schools, including MAC rivals Central Michigan.

Meanwhile, another group from BGSU will head to Columbus, Ohio on Friday for the 25th annual Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State University.

The two-day meet is a tribute to Owens, a track icon who attended OSU in the 1930s.  On one day in 1935, Owens broke three world records and tied a fourth.  He then went to the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where he won four gold medals.

At the Jesse Owens Track Classic, the Falcons will meet over two dozen opponents, many of whom are Mid-American Conference foes.  There will also be several other Big Ten Conference teams in attendance, including the University of Michigan and Penn State University.
