TOLEDO, OH - A pair of victories in the field events highlighted the efforts of the Rockets track and field team on day one of the 26th Annual Toledo Invitational at the UT Varsity Track.
Danielle Jacoby bested a field of 22 competitors and won the javelin with a throw of 121-09. That narrowly has her outside of the school's top-five list (Julie Thomas, 123-07), but it is the eighth-best throw in the conference this spring.
Also competing in the javelin throw was Alexandra Afloari, who took sixth with her throw of 98-09, followed in seventh by Julie Snyder with a mark of 98-02.
Jaime Gittens, meanwhile, claimed her third win in the triple jump this season with her mark of 37-03.25, which she reached on her first attempt. Yuhong Fu was just a shade behind in third with a jump of 37-02.25, while Katie Bollin placed fifth (35-08.50).
From the men's cross country team, Michael Smith came in second (33:20.74) in the 10,000 meter run, while Joel Kozlesky placed fourth (34:40.00).
The Rockets conclude action at the Toledo Invitational on Friday, with both the field and running events slated to commence at 11 a.m. from the UT Varsity Track.
