Marietta's women finish second and men earn eighth place at OAC Outdoor Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Marietta College produced its third and fourth individual champions and claimed a pair of relay victories to highlight its final day of competition at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championship Saturday (May 1) afternoon. [Results]

Host Mount Union College edged out Marietta for the women's team title. The Purple Raiders collected 132 points compared to the Pioneers' 124 points. Marietta's runner-up finish matched their performance at the 2010 OAC Indoor Championship and is its highest finish in program history. Heidelberg University won the men's team championship with 173 points. The Pioneer men collected 34 points to place eighth.

Senior #Cody Thomas (North Olmsted/North Olmsted)# made the jump from 2009 runner-up to 2010 champion in the 800m Run on Saturday. Thomas crossed the line in a season's best time of 1:55.48 to earn All-OAC honors for the second straight year.

Thomas also teamed with junior #Anthony Williams (Columbus/Bishop Hartley)#, freshman #Chase Oberfield (Heath/Heath)# and sophomore #Ryan House (New Concord, Ohio/John Glenn)holder# to take fifth place in the 4x400m Relay, closing out the championship with a season's best time of 3:21.44

Freshman #William McCulloch#, Householder, Williams and Oberfield also combined to take sixth in the 4x100m Relay after crossing the line in 43.10 seconds.

Five Pioneers earned All-OAC honors and combined to win a pair of relay events on the women's side Saturday. Sophomore #Brittany Sims (Columbus/Eastmoor Academy)#, sophomore #Corryn Muench (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic)#, senior #Christi Tims (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls)# and sophomore #Lauren Asbury (White Sulphur Springs, W.Va./Greenbrier East)# captured the 4x100m Relay with a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 48.62 seconds. Muench, Tims, Sims and freshman #Kristeva Rowe# then teamed up to win the 4x400m Relay with a season's best time of 3:59.34.

Sims collected All-OAC honors in two individual events to go along with her two relay events. She finished runner-up in the 400m Hurdler by covering the lap in 1:04.35. Muench also took fourth in the event with a personal record time of 1:05.52. Sims then added a third place finish in the 100m Dash by finishing the sprint in a school record 12.52 seconds. Asbury placed fifth (12.84 seconds) and sophomore #Kim Keesler (Chagrin Falls/Chagrin Falls)#, who won the Pole Vault crown on Friday, took eighth (13.17 seconds) in the 100m Dash.

Asbury added two more fifth place finishes on Saturday. She ran a personal record 26.53 second in the 200m Dash and 16.09 seconds in the 100m Hurdles. Tims also earned a point in the 200m Dash after running a time of 28.82 seconds. She then placed fourth in the 400m Dash with a personal record performance of 59.81 seconds. Rowe finished right behind Tims in fifth with a time of 1:00.59.

Sophomore #Danielle Staub (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional)# ran a personal record 2:25.09 in the 800m Run and placed eighth, which earned a point for Marietta.

Sophomore #Ashley Bault (Atwater/Waterloo)# captured the 2010 OAC title in the High Jump with a school record jump of 1.62m (5-03.75). Keesler took sixth in the High Jump with a mark of 1.54m (5-00.50).

Bault also played a key role in the women's dominance of the Triple Jump as Marietta student-athletes finished second, third, fourth and fifth in the event. She took runner-up with a personal record leap of 10.07m (36-04.00). Senior #Sidra Dhiraprasiddhi (Hilliard/Darby)# joined Bault in receiving All-OAC honors with a third place finish after jumping a personal record 10.99m (36-00.00). Rowe also achieved a personal record 10.77m (35-04.00) and placed fourth, while senior #Sarita Dhiraprasiddhi (Hilliard/Darby)# leaped 10.74m (35-03.00) and finished fifth.

Saturday marked the end of the team's season. Select individual will remain on campus and compete in a series of meets over the next three weeks with the hopes of improving their chances of being selected to participate in the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship, which will be hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College May 27-29.
