Final Results

The Bowling Green State University track and field team ended the first weekend in May by completing the 25th annual Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus on Saturday.  Despite facing tough competition from a variety of conferences, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference and Big Ten, the Falcons acclimated themselves well and ended the meet with several strong finishes.

Out of 11 events, BGSU recorded one second-place finish, another top-ten finish, and five others in the top 20.

After finishing 21st in the 1500 meters on Friday, junior Autumn Dettmann earned the top result for the Orange and Brown at the Jesse Owens Classic.  She completed the mile run in 5:01.28 and finished second, less than three seconds behind Samantha Dow of Virginia Tech, who won the event.

The other top-ten result came from BGSU's 4x100 relay team.  The team had already earned one of the top five times in the MAC in this event earlier in the outdoor season, and they added to those accolades on Saturday.  Brittani McNeal, Jessica Grant, Jeanette Pettigrew and Felicia Jefferson completed the race in just 47.18 seconds, earning seventh place.  The time is the sixth best in the MAC this season, giving the Falcons two of the top six times.

Jefferson also competed on the 4x400 relay team on Saturday.  That group, which included Saisha Gaillard, Heather Conger and Allison Weimer, finished 15th with a time of 4:00.43.

Meanwhile, Pettigrew was also in action elsewhere during Saturday's competition.  The freshman set a new season/personal best in the 100 meters with a dash of 12.08 seconds.  Pettigrew placed 18th out of 38 entrants, and the time is one of the 20 best in the MAC this outdoor season.

Tatijana Jacobson, another freshman, continued her successful outdoor campaign with a 13th place finish in the high jump.  Her leap of 5-05.00 (1.65m) is 13th best in the MAC this season.  Coupled with an earlier leap, Jacobson now owns two of the top 13 marks on the MAC leaderboard.

Junior Brittani McNeal also earned a spot in the top-20 on Saturday.  In the long jump, McNeal soared 18-00.50 (5.50m) and earned 15th place.  There were 44 competitors in the event.

Fellow junior Heather Conger ran the 800 meters in 2:18.43 for the Falcons.  She placed 37th in the event.

Details about upcoming meets will come later this week; the 2010 MAC Outdoor Championships will be held in two weeks.
