Four Ohio Underclassmen Who Made the Indoor Rankings Interesting
Ailes, Edwards, Stafford, and Abdul-Basser topped the sprint leaderboards
The 2026 indoor season is wrapping up in Ohio and as the transition is made to the outdoor season it is important to note four underclassmen who left marks worth carrying into the outdoor conversation. Meet Cooper Ailes, Jaylen Edwards, Alexz Stafford, and Meena Abdul-Basser.
BOYS
Ailes opened his indoor season on Dec. 19th at the Jackets Holiday Indoor, running 7.07 in the 60m. He closed it with a PR of 6.95. In the 200m, he opened at 22.69 on Jan. 10 and ran down to 22.00 at the Kent State HS Meet #3 Last Chance, a PR that betters his fastest 200m from the 2025 outdoor season of 22.48. He's a freshman who finished the indoor season ranked No. 1 in Ohio in both events in his class.
Edwards ran 50.18 to open his indoor season and closed it with a 49.00 PR at the NEOITC All-Star Meet. His best from the 2025 outdoor season was 48.84. He was the only sophomore in Ohio to break 50 seconds indoors this season.
