Three Pioneer national qualifiers named Academic All-OAC

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio — The Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) announced the 2010 Men's and Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-OAC recipients on Thursday (May 20) afternoon and three Marietta College national qualifiers earned the league honor. Recent graduates #Chad Byers (New Matamoras/River)# and #Christi Tims (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls)# both received Academic All-OAC honors, while sophomore #Ashley Bault (Atwater/Waterloo)# was given Academic All-OAC honorable mention. The OAC faculty athletic representatives selected the award winners. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his/her second year of participation in the sport.

Byers, a captain, provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in the Discus Throw He was also the 2008 OAC Champion in the Javelin Throw and 2007 All-Ohio runner-up in the Discus Throw.

Byers carried a 3.79 grade point average into his final semester as a Physics major. He was Marietta's 2010 male recipient of the Clyde Lamb Award. Byers, a Rickey Scholar, also earned Academic All-OAC in 2008.

Tims was a key member of the outdoor 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. Both captured OAC titles in 2010 and also provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. She also earned All-OAC honors in both the indoor 4x200m Relay and outdoor 4x400m Relay in 2009 and 2010.

Tims maintained a 3.74 grade point average in her final semster as a Early Childhood Education major. She also earned Academic All-OAC honors as a soccer player in 2009.

Bault provisionally qualified for qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III Championship in both the indoor and outdoor Long Jump this season. She earned All-OAC honors in four events, including the outdoor High Jump where she won the OAC title. Bault also finished second in both the indoor and outdoor Triple Jump at the OAC Championship while taking second in the indoor Long Jump.

Bault, an Education major, entered her fourth semester with a grade point average of 3.53.
