This morning (Wednesday, June 16), the Mid-American Conference announced the 2010 Academic All-MAC women's track and field team.  Two Falcon standouts, Paige Lane and Barbara Powers, were named to this year's team, which consists of 27 MAC athletes.

Paige Lane just completed her junior season and carries a 3.972 grade point average as an exercise science major.  During the 2010 track and field season, Lane competed in both the 400 meters and the javelin throw for the Orange and Brown.

Lane's best performance in the javelin came at the Toledo Invitational, where she came within three centimeters of her career record and placed second with a throw of 36.27 meters.  She also placed second in the javelin at the Jack Shaw Invitational after a toss of 31.20m.  At the Toledo Collegiate Challenge, she had a throw of 34.20m, which earned third place.  In all, Lane secured four top-5 and six top-10 finishes in the javelin during the 2010 season.

In the 400 meters, Lane posted a career-best time of 1:01.38 at the Toledo Invitational as she picked up a ninth-place finish.  She also took ninth at the Ohio Team Challenge with a time of 1:02.93.  Her top finish in terms of place came at the Jack Shaw Invitational, where a time of 1:03.48 was good for seventh place.

Barbara Powers also just completed her junior season with the Falcons.  She carries a 4.0 grade point average, also in exercise science.  She was also recently named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team.

Powers had one of her best performances of the 2010 season at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships in May.  At the championship meet, Powers placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase by running the course in 11:02.30.  The time was fifth-best in BGSU history.  She also had a top-ten steeplechase finish at the All-Ohio Championships, placing seventh after a run of 11:09.65.

Aside from her exploits at the MAC Championships, Powers had a personal victory and took part in a relay team win during the outdoor season.  At the Toledo Collegiate Challenge, she won the 2000m steeplechase with a time of 7:14.62.  Then, at the Hillsdale Relays, she helped the 4x800m relay team secure its best time of the season, 9:12.61, on its way to a victory.

Powers, also participated in the 800m, 1500m and 5000m at times during the outdoor campaign.  At the Jack Shaw Invitational, she ran both the 800m and 1500m, finishing fifth in the 1500m race after a time of 5:00.90.  In the 5000m, she earned a third place finish with a time of 18:22.74 at the Ohio Team Challenge.

During the indoor track season, Powers had multiple top-three finishes.  She registered a personal-best time of 5:08.30 in the mile run at the Jane Herrmann Invitational, placing second.  She also placed second at the Tom Wright Classic, running the 3000m in a season-best time of 10:30.01.  Along with the mile run at the Jane Herrmann Invite, Powers ran the 3000m, placing third in 10:37.51.  She also notched a fifth-place finish in the 3000m at the All-Ohio Championships.

This is the second consecutive year that the Falcons have placed multiple athletes on the Academic All-MAC team.
