The women's cross country team at Bowling Green State University faced off against the Toledo Rockets, their rivals to the north, as they opened the 2010 season today (Sept. 3) at home in the BGSU/Toledo Dual meet.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, the results of today's meet were eerily similar to last year's season opening loss in Toledo.  The similarity begins with the final score as Toledo defeated BG today, 15-46, after downing the Falcons in 2009 by a 15-40 score.

Just like last year, the Rockets (who secured a top-ten spot at last year's NCAA Regional meet) had the top five finishers in today's race.  Today, Toledo was led by sophomore Kristal Studer, who completed the course in 0:18.15.

Senior Barbara Powers was the first Falcon to cross the finish line, placing sixth with a time of 0:18.46.  Sophomore Abby Koch and senior Autumn Dettmann ranked second and third for the Orange and Brown, respectively, finishing in 0:18.53 and 0:18.55.  Heather Conger and Katie Borgelt rounded out the Falcons' top five.

BGSU will now turn their focus to next Saturday's Mel Brodt Invitational.  That race will be held on the Falcons' traditional cross country home, the Forrest Creason Golf Course.  A map can be found on the sidebar of this page.

And now, let's meet Autumn Dettmann, Barbara Powers and Heather Conger as they provide some post-meet commentary:
