The Ohio middle school boys class of 2030 put some serious numbers on the board last season. Now they are eighth graders, and several of them were busy competing this indoor season. Let outdoors begin!
Raymond Queen IV led the class of 2030 in the 100m last season with an 11.33 PR, set at the Maryland Blaze Bring the Heat Summer Invitational on Jul 6, 2025. He has not slowed down. This indoor season he ran 7.15 in the 60m at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Mar 12 for a PR, and went 7.19 at the AAU Indoor National Championship on Mar 6. He sits at the top of the class heading into the 2026 outdoor season.
Mason Robson won the 200m at the AAU Junior Olympic Games on Jul 26, 2025 in 23.20, a PR. He also ran 11.59 in the 100m prelims at the same meet. This indoor season he ran 7.39 in the 60m at the SPIRE Middle School Last Chance Meet on Feb 21, 23.58 in the 200m at the 14 & Under National Championship on Feb 14, and 52.86 in the 400m at SPIRE. Davon Avery ran 23.80 in the 200m and 53.92 in the 400m at AAU Junior Olympics, sitting fifth and fourth on those class leaderboards.
Pierre Love Jr won the 400m at the AAU Junior Olympic Games on Jul 26, 2025 in 51.28, a PR. At the same meet he finished second in the 200m in 23.22, two hundredths behind Robson. This indoor season he stepped down in distance and ran 7.36 in the 60m at the Dayton Wolverines Track Club Last Chance Tune-Up on Mar 1 for a PR. He also went 23.97 in the 200m at the 14 & Under National Championship on Feb 14, and 52.86 in the 400m at the same Dayton meet. His 60m of 7.36 puts him between Queen (7.15) and Robson (7.39) on the class indoor leaderboard.
Damare Smith of Northmont MS swept both hurdle events at the Greater Western Ohio Conference Middle School Championship on May 7, 2025, running 15.98 in the 110mH and 26.51 in the 200mH, both PRs and both state class leads. He made the OHSAA 7th & 8th Grade State Track Meet in both events, placing 12th in the 110mH and sixth in the 200mH. This indoor season he ran 8.58 in the 60mH at the Tiffin U./Penn Station Sharon Brooks HS Invite on Feb 15 and competed at the OATCCC Junior High State Indoor Championships on Mar 14. Behind him on the 2025 hurdle leaderboards: Brady Miller of Ridgewood MS ran 16.57 in the 110mH and 28.01 in the 200mH, Henry Delamatre of Elmwood MS ran 16.80 in the 110mH, and Aiden Ashcraft of Wilmington MS ran 27.34 in the 200mH at the OHSAA state meet.
Also among the class of 2030 sprint returners: TJ Wojciechowski of Lucas MS ran 11.60 in the 100m to sit third on the class list, Robert Laws of KIPP Columbus Middle ran 11.62 for fourth, and Darian Clemons of Galion MS ran 23.59 in the 200m for third. In the 400m, Chaise Scruggs ran 52.95 for third and Jhalil Williams of Spencerville MS ran 54.53 for fifth.
