Before today's Mel Brodt Invitational, head coach Cami Paulson said that the Bowling Green State University women's cross country team was eager to race and approached the meet with more aggression and confidence after last week's disappointing start against Toledo.

The team's approach paid off in spades.  On a cool, cloudy day at Bowling Green's Forrest Creason Golf Course, the Falcons took home top team and individual honors in dominating fashion.

Overall, the Orange and Brown took home four of the top five spots and six of the top ten.  Against all six of the other teams at the meet, their 21 points were 40 better than Ohio Northern, the second place team who scored 61 points today.

Against their lone Division I opponent, Cleveland State, BGSU took seven of the top eight spots and won convincingly, 16-47.

Individually, sophomore Abby Koch won top individual honors by absolutely shattering her previous personal best in the 5K.  She ran an 18:45.5 in last year's 5K Mel Brodt race; this time, she ecliped that time by nearly 40 seconds, completing the race in just 18:07.2.

Koch finished 15 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor, teammate Heather Conger.  Conger also established a personal record, with a time of 18:22.1 in today's 5K.

Autumn Dettmann and Barbara Powers both joined Koch and Conger in the top five.  Dettmann, like Koch and Conger, established a personal record with a time of 18:29.5, while Powers' time of 18:45.2 beat the pace she set last week when she led all BGSU runners at the Toledo Dual.

Katie Borgelt and Sally Kandie also registered top-ten finishes for the Falcons.  Overall, the team had eight runners in the top 20 and ten finished in the top half of the field.

Bowling Green will now attempt to build off of this success by traveling to East Lansing, Mich. next Friday for the Spartan Invitational.  The women's team will increase their distance to 6K for the meet.

Complete results can be found in the links above, while a photo gallery will be posted soon.
