Seven Falcons Set Personal Best Times

MEET RESULTS

The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team faced two stern tests this week when they traveled to East Lansing, Mich. for the 2010 Spartan Invitational.

After two home meets, the Falcons were facing an increase in distance, from 5K to 6K.  They were also facing a serious increase in the caliber of competition.  At the Spartan Invitational, they would take on two teams nationially ranked by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA), as well as two Mid-American Conference teams, one of which received votes in the most recent USTFCCCA national poll.

Bowling Green did not seem fazed by either test, and they performed well in a meet that did not include team scoring.

Seven different Falcons set personal best times in Friday's 6K race.  The top finisher for the Orange and Brown was sophomore Abby Koch.  Koch ran one of the 20 best 6K races in school history, crossing the finish line in 0:22:22 for a 29th place finish.  Koch was within 20 seconds of a top-20 finish in the race and was only a minute removed from the top ten.

Senior Autumn Dettmann and redshirt freshman Katie Borgelt also earned peraonsl-best times.  Dettmann placed 54th out of 231 runners with a time of 0:23:03, while Borgelt posted a time of 0:23:32.

Tara Weiss also posted a personal-best, running the course in 0:23:48.

Also setting personal best times in the 6K were Courtney Krummert (0:24:31), Saisha Gailliard (0:24:54) and Caitlin Flack (0:25:50).

Overall, Bowling Green placed three in the top 50 runners.  Joining Koch in that group were seniors Heather Conger (0:22:55) and Barbara Powers (0:22:57).

Sally Kandie (0:23:31) joined Borgelt, Weiss and Megan Kelsey in the top half of the field.

After the meet, head coach Cami Paulson said, "The team raced well.  Abby's finish was another very strong effort and Heather, Barbara and Autumn all worked well together.  We now need to work on closing up that gap after our number four and really put ourselves in position to compete at the level we are capable of as the season progresses.  The team is working very well together and looking forward to the All-Ohio Meet in two weeks."

Complete results can be found at the link at the top of this release.

The Falcons next compete in Cedarville, Ohio at the All-Ohio Championshps on Friday, October 1st.
