Sophomore Caleb Muller (Columbus/Bexley) paced Marietta with a fifth place finish among the 192 men in the race. Muller finished the eight kilometer course in 26:04.4, which made him the fastest runner in program history since the reinstatement in 2002.

Sophomore Caleb Ellis (St. Albans, W.Va./St. Albans) once again was the second Pioneer to cross the line. He finished the race in 26:51.1 and placed 23rd overall. Junior Terrance Wallace (Westerville/Westerville Central) followed in 44th place with a time of 27:50.6. Sophomore Sean Hoover (Kent/Kent Roosevelt) ran a personal record 28:19.6 and took 58th. Junior Andy Guimond (Marietta/Marietta) also ran a personal record 28:50.2 and rounded out the scoring with a 70th place finish.

"Our men showed a glimpse of what we are capable of this season," Head Coach Derek Stanley said. "We ran a strong race and placed well. This is our best team performance of the year so far."

Junior Reba Leonard (Brookville/Brookville) paced the women's team for a third straight race by finishing 28th with a time of 19:45.8, which matched her personal record. Senior Stephanie Williams (Vincent/Warren Local) ran a personal record, following close behind in 31st place with a time of 19:51.9.

Sophomore Lydia Tillmaand (Xenia/Xenia) also ran a personal record and took 64th with a time of 20:47.1 Junior Mehgan Cline (Dublin/Coffman) took 82nd by crossing the line in a season's best 21:12.9. Freshman Amy Kauffman (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle Area) capped the scoring with a 91st place finish after covering the course in 21:47.3.

"Our women appeared tired but they performed pretty well," Stanley said. "We missed out on a couple teams I thought we had a chance at but beat teams I thought we could beat too. We are banged up, so our focus will shift to resting up for a run at the end of the season."

Marietta returns to action Friday (Oct. 1) afternoon when it competes at the All-Ohio Championship, hosted by Cedarville University.
