Barbara Powers Finishes Best Personal 5K Run Since 2007

Championship Race Results   ---   OVERALL, DIVISION I

Open Race Results   ---   OVERALL

The Bowling Green State University women's cross country team earned a top ten finish at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship meet for the second straight year on Friday (Oct. 1).

Held at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio and hosted by Cedarville University, the 56th annual Championship featured two distinct races.

The first race was the championship event.  It included each team's top seven runners.  Team scoring was kept for the race, which included 39 teams from the NAIA and all three divisions of the NCAA.

After the championship run, individual runners from each school competed in an open race where no team scoring was kept.

Each race totaled 5K in length.

Individually, sophomore Abby Koch led the Falcon runners in the main event and completed her second-best time in a 5K during her two seasons with the team.  Her time of 18:35.1 earned 40th place overall and 30th place among Division I runners.

Two Falcon seniors also finished in the top 50 overall.  Barbara Powers completed her best 5K run since her freshman season by posting a time of 18:36.1.  Autumn Dettmann also had the second-best time of her four year career, taking just 18:43.5 to finish the run.

Like Powers and Dettmann, senior Heather Conger and redshirt freshman Katie Borgelt each approached career-best times.  Conger crossed the finish line in 18:58.9, while Borgelt did so in 18:59.6.  Both finished in the top 25 percent of the field of nearly 300 runners.

Dettmann, Conger and Borgelt each set their career-best times in the 5K at the Mel Brodt Invitational in September.

Falcon seniors Tara Weiss (19:16.1) and Sally Kandie (19:42.2) each finished in the top half of the field to round out the team's effort.

Four Bowling Green runners were among the 269 to compete in the day's open race.  Senior Megan Kelsey completed the 5K run first among the four, placing 36th overall with a time of 19:43.6.

Sophomore Taylor Stichter used a time of 20:00.1 to also place in the top 50.

Ashley Burns ran in her first competition of the season, completing her debut race with the Falcons in 20:45.9; fellow freshman Caitlin Flack also competed, and her time of 21:04.6 placed her in the top half of the field.

The team now has two weeks to prepare for their last home meet of the season, the Falcon Invitational, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 16th.
