CEDARVILLE, OH - The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams competed in the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville, OH on Friday against some of the best teams in the state. The men's team finished eighth overall, while the women's team - devoid of their top six runners - took fourth place.

The men's team was led by junior captain Jonathan DeWitt, who took 10th place with a time of 24:48.10 in the 8k. This is the second straight race that DeWitt has paced the men after he earned MAC Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for his team-leading performance at the Roy Griak Invitational.

Following DeWitt and rounding out the top five for Toledo were Nick Thomas (20th, 25:07.80), Elisha Kipchumba (33rd, 25:28.90), Barnabas Kiprotich (43rd, 25:39.60) and Mike Smith (97th, 26:32.20).

"The men's team did a great job today especially after just racing on a very tough Minnesota course 6 days ago," said assistant coach Sara Vergote. "I was especially pleased with the way that Jonathan DeWitt and Nick Thomas raced establishing themselves among the other top men from the MAC."

For the women, who were without their top six runners (participating in Richard Clark Invitational on Saturday) including MAC Cross Country Runner of the week Ari Fisher, Devyn Ramsay paced the Rocket harriers, finishing 18th with a time of 18:06.00. Rounding out the top five for the women were Amber Cushnie (19th, 18:10.50), Lindsay Toussant (24th, 18:14.00), Samantha Condron (27th, 18:19.40) and Elizabeth Lemon (53rd, 18:46.90).

"The women had a solid race finishing fourth overall especially considering our top six women are racing at Missouri State this weekend," said Vergote. "To have four women right up in the mix with Miami and in front of most of the other MAC women in the race shows how tremendously deep we are."

"There is still a lot of work to be done between now and the championship portion of our season, but we feel like today was a great step towards accomplishing our goals," continued Vergote.

The six Rocket women not present at the All-Ohio meet will compete on Saturday at the Richard Clark Invitational, featuring a very strong field that includes national No. 4 Texas Tech.
