Jason Salyer Earns Top Falcon Finish for First Time in Career

2010 MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS:   Team Results (.htm)   --   Individual Results (.htm)

Sophomore Jason Salyer placed in the top 40 and earned the second-best 8K time of his Falcon career, but there were few other highlights for the Bowling Green State University men's cross country team as it placed ninth at the Mid-American Conference Championships for the second consecutive year.

At the Pine View Golf Club in Kalamazoo, Mich., Salyer became the first Falcon other than Chris Moody to top the list of BGSU runners since the beginning of the 2008 season.  On Saturday (Oct. 30th), he cruised the 8K course in 25:42.9, a time he has eclipsed only once - at this year's Mel Brodt Invitational.

Moody completed his final MAC Championships with a time of 26:13.3 for a 46th place finish, an improvement of two spots and nearly two minutes over last year's results.

Rob Kelvey finished just behind Moody in 49th place, completing the course in 26:16.9.

Also in his final run at a MAC meet, senior Jesse Smuda shaved 90 seconds from his 2009 time to finish in 27:21.5, placing 60th.

Greg Black (27:41.2), Josh Franek (27:44.5), Jeff Ehler (28:36.3) and Luke Zerkle (29:05.5) also competed at today's meet, hosted by Western Michigan.

The Falcons' next competition will be in two weeks at the 2010 NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Rochester, Michigan.
