Facing some of the toughest programs in the state, the Bowling Green State University track and field squad used several strong performances to walk away with a very respectable eighth place finish at the 2011 All-Ohio Championships, which concluded on Saturday evening (Jan. 22).

The Falcons finished in the top half of a very deep field of nearly 20 teams, 16 of which scored points during the weekend competition.  Their 30 points defeated Mid-American Conference opponent Ohio, as well as Youngstown State, Wright State and Xavier.

Cincinnati took top honors with 119 points, defeating second-place Akron by 41.8 points.  Kent State, Miami and Toledo rounded out the top five.

Bowling Green's top finish was once again sophomore sprinter Jeanette Pettigrew.  Pettigrew, who won the 60 meter dash last weekend at the BGSU Challenge, took second place today.  She qualified by running a 7.67, then beat that mark in the final with a 7.60 time.

Pettigrew raced in two other events and helped the Falcons total 11 of their 30 points.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Pettigrew joined Brittani McNeal, Felicia Jefferson and Allison Weimer in a sixth-place finish, totaling three points with a time of 3:59.96.

Pettigrew earned BGSU's top finish in the 200 meter dash.  Her time of 25.77 seconds gave her 12th place.  Allorian Horne (25.99) and Alicia Jefferson (27.26) also competed in that event.

Tatijana Jacobson, a Falcon sophomore, earned the other top-three finish for the Orange and Brown.  In placing third in the high jump with a leap of 5-07.25 (1.71 meters), Jacobson eclipsed a personal record she had set last weekend.  Ariel Edwards also competed, placing 13th with a jump of 1.56 meters.

In the shot put, Ashley Harris also set a personal record and scored a fourth place finish.  Her toss of 47-06.25 (14.48 meters) fell less than a foot shy of the winning mark.  Jessie Rowland placed 11th with a throw of 13.06 meters, while Brittany Hodges posted a 10.29 meter throw.

Two other individual Falcons notched points for BGSU today.  Nicole Farr was one of two Falcons to post a top-ten time in the 3000 meter run.  She earned three points by finishing sixth in 10:07.19.  Abby Koch finished ninth.  Meanwhile, Autumn Dettmann posted a time of 5:12.19 in the mile run to place seventh and gain two team points.

The team's other three points came via the Distance Medley Relay (DMR).  Dettmann, Farr, Brittani McNeal and Heather Conger fininshed in 11:58.05 and placed sixth for three points.
