Four Ohio Class of 2028 athletes recently posted class-leading marks across distance and field events. Aaron Maus and Jalen Berry lead the boys side in the 800m and 300 hurdles, while Alexis Schultz and Finley Blevins hold the top spots in the girls 1600m and pole vault.
BOYS
Maus ran 1:57.42 to win the 800m at the Delaware Hayes HS Invitational on Apr. 17, a PR that leads all Ohio sophomores in the event and sits 19th in the state regardless of grade. He ran 2:00.82 at the Watkins Memorial Icebreaker Invitational on Apr. 4 before dropping more than three seconds two weeks later. Indoors he ran a PR of 2:02.91 at the Rubber City Invitational on Jan. 17.
His 2025 outdoor 800m best was 2:00.57, run at New Balance Nationals Outdoor where he placed 42nd. He also ran a 1600m PR of 4:37.41 last spring and has clocked 4:44.79 outdoors this season. Last cross country season he placed 62nd at NXR Midwest Regional Championships in 17:16.92.
Berry ran 38.96 for third place at the Walsh Jesuit John Hasenstab Warrior Relays on Apr. 18, a PR that leads all Ohio sophomores in the 300 hurdles and sits 30th in the country in the class. He went 40.15 at the Cloverleaf vs Woodridge Dual on Apr. 14 before cutting more than a second at the Warrior Relays four days later.
In the 110 hurdles he ran a PR of 15.55 at the April Fools Quad on Apr. 4, then went 15.77 at the Cloverleaf vs Woodridge Dual on Apr. 14. His 2025 outdoor 300H best was 40.82. Indoors he ran a 400m PR of 51.99 and a 60H PR of 8.78.
GIRLS
Schultz ran 5:04.35 for second place at the 6th Toledo St. John's Jesuit Titan Invite on Apr. 17, a PR that leads all Ohio sophomores in the 1600m by two hundredths over Naomi Sheesley of McDonald at 5:04.37. She also ran a 3200m PR of 11:12.63 at the Lexington Invite on Apr. 11, and went 2:23.29 in the 800m and ran a 400m PR of 1:01.13 Apr. 14.
Indoors this season her 800m PR of 2:20.09 came at the 2026 OATCCC D1 Indoor State Meet on Mar. 6, where she placed 10th, and she ran a 1600m of 5:24.39. Her 2025 outdoor 800m best was 2:24.84 and her 3200m best was 11:45.11. Last cross country season she placed 55th at the OHSAA Division 1 State Championship in 19:30.72.
Blevins cleared 12-0 to win the pole vault at the Chieftain Relays on Apr. 17, a PR that leads all Ohio sophomores in the event, ties her eighth in the state regardless of grade, and puts her tied fifth in the country in her class. Her season progression: 11-0 at the River Valley HS Tri on Mar. 31, 11-6 at the Colonel Crawford Grove/Keller Invitational on Apr. 2, 11-6 again at Upper Sandusky vs Wynford/River Valley on Apr. 13, then 12-0 at the Chieftain Relays.
Indoors she cleared 12-0 at the Heidelberg High School Open on Jan. 10 and placed 36th at New Balance Nationals Indoor on Mar. 12-15 at 11-5. As a freshman last spring she cleared 12-0 at the Bellefontaine HS Quad on Apr. 14, 2025, then advanced through districts and regionals to the OHSAA Division 2 State Championships where she cleared 11-4 for seventh place.
