The Bowling Green State University track and field team hosted their second meet of the 2011 indoor season on Saturday, Jan. 29, as several area teams invaded Perry Field House for the annual Tom Wright Classic.

The meet, which did not include team scoring, featured 15 women's and 14 men's events.  Joining the Falcons were Mid-American Conference foes Central Michigan and Toledo, as well as squads from Ferris State and Concordia (Mich.) University.

In the women's events, the Falcons were victorious on eight different occasions.

Three of those wins came in field events.  In the high jump, Tatijana Jacobson fell just shy of eclipsing her personal record as she won with a jump of 1.70 meters (5-07.00).

Ashley Harris took home victory in the shot put with a toss of 14.38 meters (47-02.00).  Jessie Rowland established a new personal record of 45-11.50 as she placed second.  Brittany Hodges and Brooke Pleger also set personal records.

Rowland and Harris switched places in the weight throw competitioni, with Rowland winning and Harris taking the runner-up spot.  Rowland's victorious throw again set a personal record, as the weight traveled 16.94 meters (55-07.00).  Harris' attempt went 16.15 meters.  Pleger and Hodges again established personal bests, as did Paige Lane.  Pleger beat her previous best by five feet; Hodges' new mark passed her old by nearly seven feet.

Rochelle Muckensturm had the team's other top-three finish in field events, as she placed third in the pole vault with a leap of 2.90 meters (9-6.25).

On the track side of the afternoon, the Falcons split two relay events.  BGSU won the distance medley relay (DMR) with a time of 12:58.93, while the team of Kristin Miller, Megan Niehaus, Gillian Allan and Tatijana Jacobson placed second in the 4x400 meter relay with a total time of 4:08.68.

Bowling Green athletes swept the two distance events.  Megan Kelsey won the mile run, finishing in 5:08.08, less than one second ahead of teammate Nicole Farr (5:08.81).  Barbara Powers placed third and also finished less than one second behind Kelsey, as she completed the distance in 5:09.00.  The victor in the 3000 meter run was Sally Kandie, setting a season-best time of 11:02.03 in the event.  Taylor Stichter placed second (11:15.49).

Autumn Dettmann and Rachel Doughty provided the Falcons with the team's other two victories.  Dettmann finished the 800 meter run in 2:20.26 to win, while Saisha Gailliard, Courtney Krummert, Carly Wells and Gillian Allen rounded out the top five.  Doughty won the 60 meter hurdles in 9.07 seconds, while Darlene Anderson ran the race in 9.82 seconds to set a personal record.

Elsewhere, Jeanette Pettigrew took second place (25.60) in the 200 meter dash.  Felicia Jefferson finished in fourth place (26.45) and added fourth place finishes in the 60 meter dash (8.20) and 400 meter dash (1:01.35).

The Falcons have two events scheduled over the next two weekends, both on the road.  Next weekend, the team is scheduled to travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Meyo Invitational.  That meet is followed the next weekend by a trip to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invitational.

The team will return to action at Perry Field House in one month, for the 2011 MAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 25 and 26.
