The Bowling Green State University track and field team continues preparation for the 2011 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships by competing this weekend at the prestigious Meyo Invitational.

On Friday evening (Feb. 4), the Falcons had a successful first day at the two-day meet in South Bend, Ind. on the campus of Notre Dame.

Rachel Doughty had her best day as a collegiate athlete in the 60 meter hurdles. Her time of 8.94 seconds eclipsed her previous record of 9.02 seconds. While she fell short of qualifying for Saturday's final, she placed 19th in a field of 54 runners.

In the 60 meter dash preliminaries, Jeanette Pettigrew had one of her best days in her season-plus as a Falcon. She posted a 7.59 second mark to place fifth and qualify for Saturday's finals. Her time was just one one-hundredth of a second shy of the runners from Eastern Michigan and Michigan State that tied for third.

Two members of the Orange and Brown ran in the evening's 5000m event. Tara Weiss posted a season-best time of 18:22.29, while Abby Koch finished the distance in 18:12.25.

Meanwhile, the team of Autumn Dettmann, Felicia Jefferson, Heather Conger and Nicole Farr placed ninth in a 13-team field for the distance medley relay. The Falcons' time of 12:00.11 was second among the three MAC teams in the field, falling less than three seconds shy of Ohio's team and seven seconds ahead of the team from Ball State.

The team competed in three field events on the first day of the meet. Tatijana Jacobson earned the Falcons' best finish by placing ninth in the high jump (1.68m).

The weight throw competition featured two Falcons who finished in the top 15. Jessie Rowland placed 11th with a mark of 16.20m, while Ashley Harris' toss of 15.49m gave her 15th place.

In the long jump event, Brittani McNeal placed 21st with a leap that traveled 5.58 meters.

While the main contingent of BGSU's track and field team was in South Bend, several Falcons traveled to Findlay, Ohio for the Findlay Open.

Carly Wells posted a season-best time of 2:22.58 and placed third in the 800 meter run, while Ashley Fischer also posted a season-best time (5:17.94) to earn tenth place in the mile run.

Also competing in Findlay was Janelle Campbell. She took second place in the long jump with a leap of 5.03m (16-06.00) and placed fourth in the triple jump after a leap of 10.10m (33-01.75).

Falcon athletes in South Bend continue action at the Meyo Invitational today. Results and a complete recap will be posted as soon as final results are available.
