Cross Country, Track And Field Announce Signings For 2011-2012 Seasons

Bowling Green State University track and field and cross country head coach Cami Paulson and her staff are proud to welcome 12 student-athletes to the Falcon family for the 2011 cross country and 2012 track and field seasons.

The signees are:

Megan Lundahl (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest)

Megan Monte (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover)

Paulson said, “I am so pleased to welcome this fine group of young women to the program.  These young ladies have all the qualities necessary to be successful student-athletes. They are driven, intelligent, talented and hard working.  I am thrilled to welcome them to the program.”

She added, “We will be losing the services of a fine senior class after this spring, and we were looking to bring in young women who could step in and make an immediate impact in all areas.  In this group of young ladies, we have an outstanding pool of talent and enthusiasm which will help both the cross country and track programs continue to progress toward future success both in the classroom and in competition.”

Andrea Alt - Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg (Distance/cross country)
High school:
Four-time letter winner in track and field and cross country … 2010 team captain (T&F/XC) … three-time Academic All-Ohio … as a freshman, placed second in NLL in cross country and finished third in the 1600m at district level … placed sixth at district and tenth at regionals in 1600m as a sophomore … in junior season, placed sixth in 3200m at indoor state meet after winning event on district level … three-time state qualifier in cross country (2008-2010) … first-team All-NLL in cross country (2007, 2009) … helped team to three straight district championships in track (2008-2010).

“Andrea has a great range of ability and the potential to be a contributor in many areas,” Paulson said.  “She is driven, positive, and has an enthusiasm for running and life.  I am thrilled to have Andrea joining the team.”


Veronica Bruns - Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater (Mid-distance/cross country/high jump)
High school:
Four-time letter winner in cross country and track and field … also lettered in basketball … has a cross country personal record time of 19:29 (ranks fourth in school history) … helped cross country team place sixth at state as a junior and seventh as a senior … named to All-Midwest Athletic Conference cross country team as junior and senior … in 2010 track season, set personal record of 2:17 in 800m and placed 12th at state meet, also won district title in event … ran on 4x800m relay team in Division II state meet as freshman and sophomore … four-time Academic All-Ohio.

“Veronica is a gifted multi-sport athlete who has proven herself in a variety of track and field events, as well as cross country,” said Paulson.  “She has the potential to be successful in a variety of areas.  I am very excited to have Veronica joining us this fall.”

Shana Flanary - Flat Rock, Mich. / Monroe (Throws)
High school:
  Won national championship in hammer throw at 2008 USATF Junior Olympics in Intermediate Girls division ... took eighth place in hammer throw in Young Women's division in 2009 ... three-time USATF regional hammer throw champion (2007-2009) ... two-time indoor state champion in weight throw (2009-2010) ... finished fifth at Michigan indoor state meet in 2010 for shot put ... in discus throw, placed eighth at 2010 Michigan outdoor state meet ... named 2010 Most Valuable Player for Monroe High School girls' track ... personal bests of 50-3.25 (weight throw), 142-5.75 (hammer throw), 125-0 (discus) and 38-2.00 (shot put) ... Academic All-Michigan in 2010 ... lettered four times in track and field ... also lettered in volleyball.

Falcon throws coach Justin Carvalho said, "We are very excited to have Shana join our throws group.  Not only is she talented in all the throws, she has an upbeat and positive personality that will be a great addition to our group dynamic.  I am expecting big things from her over the next four years."

Megan Lundahl - Lake Forest, IL / Lake Forest (Distance/cross country)
High school: Four-year letter winner in both cross country and track … named team captain for cross country in 2010 … in track, placed sixth in the 3200m run at the North Suburban Conference meet in 2009 … placed second in the 3200m at the Prairie/Lake meet in 2009 … helped team win Lake Division and NSC track championships in 2010 … also helped cross country team to NSC title in 2010 … took seventh place at 2009 Lake County Art Campbell cross country meet … at NSC meets, placed 18th (2007), 14th (2008) and 24th (2009).

“Megan has overcome many obstacles in her running career and has continued to grow and progress as a runner,” Paulson said.  “Megan will be a strong addition to the team with great potential to contribute in cross country and track.”

Meghan Maurer - Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North (Mid-distance/cross country)
High school: Personal best times of 19:37 in 5K (cross country), as well as 2:20 (800m), 0:58 (400m) and 0:27.6 (200m) in track … helped team reach track and cross country regionals in 2010 … named to second-team Ohio Capital Conference for 4x800m relay in consecutive years (2009-2010) … also named second-team OCC in 800m in 2009 … won several team awards in 2010, including Outstanding Scholar-Athlete, Most Improved and Outstanding Performance in cross country.

“Meghan has just started to show her potential in middle and long distance events.  She has excellent potential in a variety of events,” Paulson commented.  “Meghan will be a strong addition to our team.”

Maria Meredith - Miamisburg, Ohio / Kettering-Fairmont (Mid-distance/cross country)
High school: Four-year letter winner in cross country and track and field … member of the 4x800m team that set the Fairmont school record … personal best times of 2:17 in the 800m and 5:12 in the 1600m … member of first-team All-GWOC in the 800m and 1600m from 2008-2010 … in 2008, member of 4x800m relay team that placed seventh at state meet … team captain in cross country and track … member of National Honor Society.

“Maria has had success as both a track and cross country runner,” Paulson said.  “She is a positive, driven student-athlete who has excellent potential to continue to develop and be successful at the collegiate level.”

Megan Monte - North Canton, Ohio / Hoover (Mid-distance/cross country)
High school:
Four year letter winner in both track and field and cross country … coached by Jason Kirkland … Federal League champion as a senior and three-time state qualifier in cross country … 2010 cross country team MVP … four-time first-team All-Stark County in cross country … three time Academic All-Ohio … two-time regional qualifier in 1600m and 4x800m relay in track … helped track and field team to back-to-back regional championships as a junior and senior … as a sophomore, team finished as state runner-up … named to ESPN Rise Magazine's “NE Ohio Cross Country Runners to Watch” list in the fall of 2008.

“Megan has a great personality. She is positive, determined and hard working,” noted Paulson. “Megan has proven herself in track and cross country.  She is just beginning to tap into her true potential and will be a wonderful addition to the team.”

Megen Rapp - Midland, Mich. / Midland (Distance/cross country)
High school: Named first-team All-Valley in cross country (2008-2011) … also first-team All-Valley in 4x800m relay (2009-2010) … named to All-Valley second team in three events during freshman season and won rookie award … team captain for cross country and track and field teams as a senior … cross country team was state qualifier in 2009 and 2010, including 12th place finish in 2010 … in track, team placed second in Saginaw Valley Conference from 2008-2010 … best 5K times in cross country – 19:17 and 19:22 … ran a 5:22.74 mile as a freshman … registered a 2:24 split in the 4x800m relay during 2010 season.

“Megen is extremely positive and enthusiastic. She will be a positive addition to the team in every way,” Paulson said.  “Megen has a great range of ability from middle distance to cross country and has potential to be a contributor in many different areas.”

Jasmine Redman - New Carlisle, Ohio / Tecumseh (Distance/cross country)
High school: Named 2009 and 2010 Clark Country Cross Country Runner of the Year … three-time state qualifier, with 15th place finish in 2008 … finished second or third at district meet in three consecutive years … helped team to CBC championship (2008-2010) … in 2008, team placed fourth at regionals and 14th at the state meet … four-time letter winner … member of the National Honor Society.

“Jasmine had a very strong cross country season this fall after overcoming some injuries the past few years,” Paulson commented.  “She will be a strong addition to both the cross country and track and field teams with potential to excel in many events.”

Mackenzie Reeves – Sylvania, Ohio / Northview (Mid-distance/cross country)
High school: Earned a total of 9 letters in track and field, cross country and swimming … helped cross country team to sixth place (sophomore) and tenth place (junior) at state championships … in junior season, cross country team was league, district and regional champions … earned second-team All-NLL and first-team All-District as freshman and sophomore in cross country … as a junior in track, ran on 4x800 team that set school and district record in event … same 4x800 team placed 12th at state championships … Academic All-Ohio as sophomore and junior for cross country and as junior for track … served as cross country captain in junior and senior seasons.

"Mackenzie will add depth to our middle distance training group and has the ability to be a solid contributor in cross country and track,” said Paulson.

Krystin Reiser - Hamler, Ohio / Patrick Henry (Mid-distance/high jump)
High school: Lettered in track and field, as well as basketball … track and field team was NWOAL champion in 2010 … won league title in 400m (1:02.74) and high jump (5'0”) … runner-up on district and regional levels in 800m in 2010, then placed tenth at state (2:23.44) … 2008 Spirit of Excellence award winner … named 2010 Top-Scoring Junior … named first team All-NWOAL in 2010 … member of the National Honor Society.

“Krystin is a strong student-athlete who has great versatility,” said Paulson.  “She has excellent potential to be a successful collegiate track and field athlete.”

Lisa Worthey - Northfield, Ohio / Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy (Sprints)
High school:  Contributed to two state championship teams (2008, 2009) and three-time conference, district and regional champions (2008-2010) … member of three relay teams that finished fourth at 2010 state championship meet … member of two relay teams that placed third at state meet, as well as third team that placed fourth, in 2009 … named 2009 Most Improved Runner … lettered in track and field, as well as basketball … track and field team captain in 2010.

“Lisa comes from a successful high school program where she has been a key member of the school's relay teams,” Paulson said.  “She will add depth to our sprinting group and has excellent potential to continue to improve and be successful at the college level.”

The Falcons' cross country team loses the services of six outgoing seniors for the upcoming 2011 season, while nine seniors will finish their Falcon track and field careers at the conclusion of the current season.
