Falcons Add Shana Flanary To 2011 Track And Field Recruiting Class

Bowling Green State University track and field and cross country head coach Cami Paulson and her staff are proud to welcome a 12th student-athlete to the Falcon family and the 2011 BGSU recruiting class.

The newest addition is Shana Flanary, who specialized in throws while first at Airport High School then at Monroe High School in southeastern Michigan.

About Flanary, Paulson said, "Shana is a proven national competitor in the weight throw and hammer throw.  She is a gifted athlete who will be able to step in and make an impact.  We aver very pleased to have Shana joining the team and feel she is the perfect fit.  She will really solidify an already strong group of throwers returning next year."

  Won national championship in hammer throw at 2008 USATF Junior Olympics in Intermediate Girls division ... took eighth place in hammer throw in Young Women's division in 2009 ... three-time USATF regional hammer throw champion (2007-2009) ... two-time indoor state champion in weight throw (2009-2010) ... finished fifth at Michigan indoor state meet in 2010 for shot put ... in discus throw, placed eighth at 2010 Michigan outdoor state meet ... named 2010 Most Valuable Player for Monroe High School girls' track ... personal bests of 50-3.25 (weight throw), 142-5.75 (hammer throw), 125-0 (discus) and 38-2.00 (shot put) ... Academic All-Michigan in 2010 ... lettered four times in track and field ... also lettered in volleyball.

Falcon throws coach Justin Carvalho said, "We are very excited to have Shana join our throws group.  Not only is she talented in all the throws, she has an upbeat and positive personality that will be a great addition to our group dynamic.  I am expecting big things from her over the next four years."
