Falcons Host 2011 MAC Indoor Championships This Weekend

The Bowling Green State University track and field team has competed in several meets over the last two months and is ready for the pinnacle of the indoor season.  On Friday and Saturday (Feb. 25-26), the team competes in the 2011 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. 

The championship event will be hosted by BGSU and takes place in Perry Field House.  Twelve women's teams and five men's teams will be for MAC championship honors in ten different track events, six field events, plus the women's pentathlon and the men's heptathlon.

Among the Falcons who will by vying for medalist honors is sophomore Jeanette Pettigrew.  Pettigrew owns the MAC's second-best time in the 60 meter dash to date.  The 7.47 second mark is also a new BGSU record.

In the high jump, Tatijana Jacobson owns the league's third-best leap of the season.  At the All-Ohio Championships, Jacobson posted a mark of 5-07.25 in the event

Ashley Harris and Jessie Rowland each captured highly-ranked marks in throwing events.  Both rank in the MAC's top ten in the shot put.  Harris' throw of 47-10.75 at the Meyo Invitational is fifth in the league.  Both are also ranked in the top ten for the weight throw competition.  Rowland earned the MAC's third-best throw of the season with a 57-05.75 toss at the Akron Invitationial.  Not to be outdone, Brooke Pleger ranks 11th in the event.

Several Falcon seniors will try to make a final impact at a championship event.  Brittani McNeal, Heather Conger, Autumn Dettmann, Barbara Powers and Rachael Doughty are among several BGSU athletes taking part in their final MAC indoor meet.

Action begins on both days at 10:00 a.m., with competition on Friday continuing through 7:15 p.m. and on Saturday through the conclustion of the meet (approximately 5:00 p.m.).
