Falcons Flock North For Toledo Collegiate Challenge

MEET SCHEDULE   ---   HEAT SHEETS

The Bowling Green State University track and field team begins the outdoor season in earnest on Saturday (April 2) when they travel to Toledo for the 2011 Toledo Collegiate Challenge.

The Falcons have performed well at this early-season meet in recent years. In 2009, the team won the meet after capturing eight event victories. They also set two meet records and featured a qualifying throw for the NCAA Regional meet.

In 2010, the team placed second to Toledo and again won eight events; their total number of event wins was tops among the teams at the meet.

This year, the Falcons will face eight different schools, mostly from the Mid-American Conference.  Joining host Toledo are Buffalo, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Ohio.  Other competing schools are Central State, Detroit and Oakland.

This year's team will attempt to add to BGSU's recent success at the Toledo Collegiate Challenge after a successful day of work at last weekend's Northwest Ohio Relays.

That successful work was led by BGSU's throwing team, several of whom have already invaded the top of the NCAA Division I East Region rankings in the hammer throw and shot put.

Jessie Rowland's top toss of 174-4 in the hammer throw ranks fifth all-time in BGSU history and is currently tied for 36th in the East Region.  The top 48 in each individual category earn a spot in the regional meet.  Rowland is also ranked in the top 100 for the shot put, as her 42-9.75 throw ranks 75th overall.

Ashley Harris and Brooke Pleger joined Rowland in the top 100 of the rankings.  Harris threw the shot put 45-4.25 last Saturday and ranks 50th in the East.  Pleger ranks 63rd in the hammer throw after posting a mark of 164-7.

A full contingent of Falcon athletes will join the throwers in Toledo.  Jeanette Pettigrew will make her outdoor season debut in three events -- the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, and the 4x100 relay.  Tatijana Jacobson is slated to compete in the high jump, while Janelle Campbell will attempt the long jump and triple jump; Darlene Anderson and Rachael Doughty will join Campbell for the long jump.

Heat sheets for each event, as well as a current meet schedule, can be found at the top of this page.

Further information about the meet, including notes for spectators and parking details, can be found here. Complete results will be posted on Saturday evening at BGSUFalcons.com.
