Falcons Take Weekend Trip To Cincinnati For All-Ohio Championships

Thu, Apr, 14 | Women's Track and Field

MEET SCHEDULE   ---   HEAT INFORMATION

On Friday and Saturday (April 15-16), teams from across Ohio will converge on the University of Cincinnati for the 2011 All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Bowling Green State University's team seeks to improve upon last year's ninth place finish.

On Friday, festivities begin with two throwing events.  Paige Lane, Jessie Rowland, Anna Pomento and Meghan Niehaus will compete at 2:00 p.m. in the javelin throw.  Shortly after, Rowland will join Brooke Pleger and Ashley Harris for the hammer throw.  Rowland seeks to improve on her personal-record throw of 184-1 (56.10 meters); the mark ranks 25th in the NCAA's East region of Division I.

Later in the afternoon, Barbara Powers is scheduled to compete in the steeplechase, while Megan Kelsey, Abby Koch, Tara Weiss and Taylor Stichter square off against other Ohio competitors in the 10,000 meters.  This will be the first 10,000 meter event for the Falcons this year.

Saturday's action begins with more field events.  At 11:00 a.m., Janelle Campbell leads a Falcon trio in the long jump.  At the same time, Rowland, Harris and Pleger compete with Anna Pomento in the discus throw.  Rowland is also ranked in that event, placing 81st in the East.

Tatijana Jacobson posted a personal-best leap in the high jump two weeks ago, and the 1.70 meter mark ranks 38th in the East -- the top 48 qualify for the regional meet.  Jacobson gets a chance to improve that height just after the noon hour.

The shot put begins at 2:00 p.m., and the Falcons bring two top-100 athletes to the fold in Harris and Rowland.  Pomento and Pleger will also compete.

In the running events, Jeanette Pettigrew competes four times -- the 100 meters, 200 meters, as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.  She aims to repeat wins in the 100 and 200 meters and the 4x100 relay.

Complete results from each day of the meet will be posted at BGSUFalcons.com at the conclusion of competition.
