Jameson Bable (156-8 DT), Blessing Kyamiza (15.25 110H), Baylee Sakho (5-4 HJ), and Campbell Moritz (16.02 100H) headline a strong week for Ohio underclassmen
BOYS
At the Bellaire Throws Only meet on May 14, Bable uncorked a toss 156-8 to win the event and set a PR that ranks him 86th in Ohio across all grades. The throw landed nearly 11 feet beyond his previous best of 145-5, a mark he had hit twice - at the OVAC 4A/5A Qualifier on May 4 and the OVAC Championship on May 9 - in the days leading up to it.
He opened the season at 137-7.25 at the Indian Creek Invitational on Mar. 28 and had been building steadily, clearing 144-6 at the Harrison Central Invitational on Apr. 17 and 144-1 at the Buckeye 8 Championship on Apr. 21 before his conference-week breakthrough.
Kyamiza ran 15.25 to place third at the Ohio Capital Conference Central Championships, a PR that ranks him 116th in Ohio across all grades. His season shows a hurdler who found a gear late: he opened at 16.82 at the Olentangy vs Orange dual on Apr. 8, ran 15.79 at the Delaware Hayes HS Invitational on Apr. 17, then dipped to 16.72 in prelims at the Wayne Invitational before posting 16.20 at the Delaware County Invitational on May 8 and his PR at conference.
His 2025 best in the 110H was 17.69. Kyamiza also ran 39.42 in the 300H at the same conference meet, which ranks 41st in Ohio across all grades.
GIRLS
Patience defined Sakho's season. She cleared 4-10 at her outdoor opener at the Little Miami Dual on Apr. 1 and spent the next six weeks stuck at that mark or below - 4-10 at the Coaches Classic Relays on Apr. 9, 4-8 at the McNicholas Invitational on Apr. 17, 4-7 at the Anderson Invitational, and 4-10 at three consecutive meets through May 8. At the Greater Miami Conference Championships this past week, she cleared 5-4 to win the event and set a PR that ranks her 22nd in Ohio across all grades. Her 2025 best was 5-1, set at the Milford MS Invitational.
Moritz ran 16.02 to place third at the Ohio Capital Conference Cardinal Championships this past week, a PR that ranks her 136th in Ohio across all grades. Jerome dual on Apr. 14, then ran 17.03 at the Olentangy HS Invitational on May 1, 16.90 at a Dublin Jerome dual on May 4, and 16.80 at the Bradley Invitational on May 8 before her conference PR.
