Thu, Apr, 28 | Women's Track and Field

DRAKE RELAYS SCHEDULE (.pdf)

The Bowling Green State University track and field team will send athletes to three separate meets over the next few days as the team continues to prepare for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.  The primary group of Falcons have traveled to Des Moines, Iowa for the 102nd edition of the Drake Relays.

Bowling Green is one of 128 teams scheduled to compete at one of the most well-known track and field events in the United States.  Nearly 1,300 women's university and college athletes are slated to compete between Thursday (April 28) and Saturday (April 30).

Thursday's slate of action includes two events in which BGSU athletes will participate.  Barbara Powers, Autumn Dettmann, Carly Wells and Heather Conger race in the 4x1600m relay.  That race is followed later in the evening by the 10,000 meter run, and Abby Koch will compete in that event.

On Friday, the Falcons will race in several relays, beginning with the 4x100 and distance medley relays.  The 4x200 and 4x800 relays take place on Friday evening.

The final day of competition begins with the 8K/half-marathon road race.  Falcon entrants in that event include Megan Kelsey and several members of the men's cross country team.  Later in the day, Jeanette Pettigrew will lead the Orange and Brown in the sprint medley relay.  Barbara Powers and Nicole Farr then round out BGSU's participation by running in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

While the main team is in Des Moines, Tatijana Jacobson travels to Indianola, Iowa on Friday to compete in Simpson College's Kip Janvrin Open.  Jacobson will pariticpate in the high jump event, which begins at 2:00 p.m. with male jumpers, followed by the women's competition.

Rounding out the weekend, the Bowling Green throwing team travels north to Ashland University for the 2011 Ashland Alumni Open.

Jessie Rowland, ranked in the top 20 of the NCAA Division I East Region in the hammer throw, competes on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against ten others in the elite hammer throw event.  Ashley Harris and Brooke Pleger are scheduled to throw in a separate hammer event, following the 2:00 p.m. men's competition.

Following Friday's action, Rowland will travel to Des Moines to compete in the hammer throw at the Drake Relays.

Harris, Pleger and Paige Lane remain in Ashland for Saturday's throwing events.  Harris is slated to appear in the shot put and discus throws, with Pleger joining Harris for the discus.  Lane is Bowling Green's entrant in the javelin throw.

Results from all competition will be available after each day on BGSUFalcons.com.
