WHERE THE SPRINTS STAND
It has been a long season, this is what has happened recently
Beau Hesler of North Adams won the D3 state 800m title last year with a 1:51.78 clocking and placed 31st at New Balance Nationals Outdoor.
This spring he picked up the 400m. He ran 48.28 in March, hit 50.81 at conference in early May, and then went 46.59 at the D4 Districts just a few weeks after - the top mark in Ohio. Jay'Vier Kerr of Glenville is 2nd at 47.70 from the D3 Districts, where he also ran 21.40 in the 200m. Khalil Bryant of John Hay is 3rd at 47.97.
Sticking to the "switching event" script, Robert Young of Westerville Central came into this season as a 400m runner. He placed 2nd at the OHSAA D1 State Championships last year in 47.29 and his 100m best in 2025 was 10.92. He now leads Ohio in the 100m at 10.45 and owns the top legal 200m mark in the state at 21.15 - both from the Ohio Capital Conference Championships.
He also sits 4th in the 400m at 48.01. Braden Shriner of Logan is 2nd in the 100m at 10.49, Joe Schaeffer of Huron 3rd at 10.51, Decarlo Prince of Akron SVSM 4th at 10.55. Key'Shawn Garrett of Wayne leads the wind list in the 200m at 21.13 (+3.8) from April and sits 5th in the 100m at 10.56. Behind Young in the legal 200m: Lorenzo Brazzell of Pickerington Central at 21.33, Nehemiah Mills of Beechcroft at 21.38, and Kerr at 21.40.
Barack James of Oregon Clay ran 13.66 at the D2 Districts, the top mark in Ohio in the 110mH. A year ago he placed 5th at New Balance Nationals Outdoor as a freshman in 14.62. This spring he has dipped under 14.00 five times, dropping to 13.85 in April, 13.79 in May, and 13.66 at districts. Nearly a full second faster than his 2025 best and the postseason just getting started. Mason Englund of Fremont Ross is 2nd at 13.80, Wyatt Augsburger of Oak Harbor 3rd at 13.87, and Logan Border of Field ran 13.89 at the D3 Districts to move into 4th.
In the 300mH, Braxton Barnett of Shenandoah leads at 36.90 from the Indian Valley Bell Legacy on Apr 24. Miles King of Olentangy Berlin is 2nd at 36.96 and Austin Browning of Buckeye Valley ran 37.16 at districts to move into 3rd. Elijah Heitkamp of Ft. Loramie is 4th at 37.47. Keng Martin of Wayne sits 5th at 37.57 and also appears in the 110mH top five.
