“What can I say about Chelsea Carrier’s year? She has been nearly flawless from start to finish. This week’s performance shows just how great an athlete Chelsea is,” coach Sean Cleary said. “Even a little off her game, she still emerges from the championships with her best ever national performance. Although she will not be remotely satisfied with this result, she has a lot to think about for the next 12 months. We are all very proud of her year.”
Carrier closed out the heptathlon with a final score of 5,761 points behind event winner Ryann Krais out of Kansas State with 5,961 points and runner up Liane Weber from Clemson with 5,857 points.
Carrier reached a distance of 5.94 meters in the third round of the long jump, good enough for third place. She went on to the javelin throw where she threw a distance of 33.08 meters and closed out the day with the 800-meter run where she took fifth place with a time of 2:18.50.
Carrier added to yesterday’s point total of 3,585 as she had a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.31, she reached 1.69 meters in the high jump, threw a distance of 11.76 meters in the shot put and took first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.95.
The all-American honor is the second for Carrier this week as she also took third team honors in the 100-meter hurdles.
