You'd be forgiven if you've never heard of Lindsey, Ohio. The small hamlet just north of US Route 20 in Sandusky County has a population of less than 500 people.
However, you might want to familiarize yourself with the place, because Lindsey played host to its first ever recorded cross country meet yesterday.
Part of the Fremont City Schools district, Lindsey is home to Creek Bend Farms and the Wilson Nature Center. This expansive park features miles of trails around fields, through woods and over bridges.
After years of preparation and dreaming, the park finally was able to host its first ever cross country meet. Fremont Ross, Bellevue, and Clyde duked it out for the Battle of Route 20. The trophy goes to the school with the lowest combined scores between the boys and girls races. This year Fremont Ross defended their home turf on senior night, with Clyde finishing second and Bellevue third.
On the girls side, Lily Kiser of Fremont Ross now holds the course record when she took first in a time of 18:27.9. She was followed by teammates Julia Norris in a time of 19:29.7 and Brooklyn Eisenhauer in a time of 19:37.5.
In the boys race, Will Spotts of Fremont Ross went 17:10.9 to edge out teammate LJ Gabel who went 17:11.5. Reese Rex of Clyde took home the bronze in 17:24.5. Jeremiah Jump of Bellevue finished 6th in a time of 17:46.8, making him the fastest freshman in the newly formed Northern Ohio Conference.
