On Site Coverage

Highlights

  • What a stellar opening for Chiles! The Timberwolves answered Estero's big Deja Vu performance from Friday night and arguably one-upped it. Lily Williams led the onslaught with an 18:09 victory for the 5K course. Teammates Carly Thomas and Rachel Givens made it 1-2-3 as they came through with 18:43 each. With four and five finsihing sixth and seventh (20:11, 20:15) it was lights out! Nineteen points for Chiles was 73 better than the 90 by Bishop Kenny and 92 from Providence. Pretty darn impressive opening day!
  • Chris Godwin, the senior from Buchholz, improves upon his time trial from last week by two seconds for another win. He is the state leader again this week for 5K with a 15:48 victory over Mac Reynolds of Nease's 16:18.
The Chiles boys though didn't want to let their girls get all the attention. They were very impressive themselves... Taylor Buzzard and Cade Zimmerman finished in third and fourth with 16:20 and 16:20, respectively. With their fifth man crossing in 13th place and #7 not far behind in 17th place... better look out. They scored 42 points to Mandarin's second place 87. Chiles boys were third in the 3A rankings last week, but that performance may have just leap-frogged Estero.
