The Race that Starts With a Cannon

You've probably heard of a starting gun, whistle, or maybe even an air horn. But have you ever heard of a starting cannon?

The aptly named Old Fort HS Stockaders are hosting their annual invite tomorrow on the grounds of their school. As customary, each race will begin with the sound of a cannon's blast. The runners start the race by running through the cannon's smoke in a mad dash around the ball fields just south of the school. Runners then must challenge themselves going both down and up difficult hills on the banks of the Sandusky River.

The sight is truly one to behold, and a unique experience you won't find anywhere else.

In the boys race, Fremont Ross and Upper Sandusky are the favorites to take home the title. Junior Bentley Lopez of Fremont Ross has the fastest time coming in with Charlie Simpson of Port Clinton close behind.

On the girls side, Fremont Ross and Liberty Center are the top two teams in the meet. Lily Kiser of Fremont Ross, Colbie Strayer of Liberty Center and Aubrey Ritzler of Seneca East have the top times coming in.
