2011 Centerville Stampede Preview
The weather looks to be near perfect as the 2011 Centerville Stampede nears. This year's races feature over 2200 athletes competing in 13 races ranging from Elementary to High School. Past results from this meet have been very competitive and this year looks to be the same way. Over 800 custom medals are awarded throughout the 13 races and 44 team trophies are also given. In addition, TEAM CHAMPION shirts are awarded to the high school varsity division winners. Let's see who some of the favorites to take home that hardware…
Middle School:
Over 30 teams are slated to compete in the each of the boys and girls varsity races. Meet Director, David Dobson, has learned that there are scheduled to be at least 3 girls with PR's under 12:30 in the varsity race! That should be a great way to get things started in the morning.
High School Boys (Black Division - DII and DIII):
This should be a great race with 31 teams competing in this particular race. #8 (DII) Oakwood is the highest ranked team attending and will be looking to win their 4th invitational of the year. Also competing are ranked #19 (DII) Alter as well as #22 (DIII) Russia. The individual race shapes up to include sub 17:00 runners Nick Mcafee - Georgetown, Alec Snead - Oakwood, Kyle Klingler - Troy Christian, Nathan Lee - Valley View, Sergei Brubaker - Milton Union, Brad Miller - Bellbrook, and Jack Randall - Oakwood.
High School Girls (Black Division - DII and DIII):
26 teams will toe the line in this race with #4 (DII) Alter the highest ranked team. However, Alter will be running their "B" squad in this division with their "A" team in the Gold, Big School, Division. #6 (DII) Bellbrook and #13 (DII) Oakwood will battle this weekend before heading to their SWBL Championships next weekend. Another ranked team is #10 (DIII) Russia who hopes to be in the mix for the team title. Individually, the race should come down to four girls who have run sub 20:00 this season. They are Bethany Norman - Xenia Christian, Lauren Francis - Russia, Erin Kennedy - Oakwood, and Courtney Swain - Bellbrook.
High School Boys (Gold Division - DI):
A smaller than usual Gold Race will take place in the later afternoon with only 11 teams participating. Homecoming and coaches choosing to rest some of their athletes before the championship portion of the season seems to be hitting the race a little harder this year. The championship is wide open. On the individual side of the race it may be a clear call winner assuming Nick Vogele - Anderson is not resting. The race for 2nd will consist of Ross Frondorf and Blake Meyer - Oak Hills, and Mike Melko and Quentin Mullen - Miamisburg.
High School Girls (Gold Division - DI):
16 teams are scheduled to begin the last race of the day. Teams that are highlighting the race are # 6 St. Ursula who is coming off of an excellent showing at Midwest Meet of Champions last week. #8 Beavercreek is attending but looks to be resting their top runners for the GWOC Meet on Oct. 15th. #9 Centerville and #19 Lebanon look to be the two other school to challenge St. Ursula for the team championship. Individuals to watch are Jacquelyn Crow - Lebanon, Olivia Albers - Alter, Annie Heffernan and Sarah Mazzei - St. Ursula, and Christine Zavakos all have season bests of under 19:00.
