OHRunners Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

The D2 boy’s race will go to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.  They have been running well all year, were 2nd at State last year and have three returners from that team.  They ran away with the Tiffin region, led by Patrick O’Brien, who ran 4th at Regional and was 15th at State last year.  The other returners are Jr. Mick Iacofano, 11th at Regionals, 41st at State and Sr. Mike Hurley, 16th at Regionals and 52nd at State.  The #4 and 5 runners are Sr. Sean Poholski and Jr. Matt Oswald.

2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th are difficult to predict.  The last October 27th OATCCC Coaches Poll showed Proctorville Fairland 2nd, Woodridge 3rd, Springfield  Shawnee 4th and Chillicothe Unioto 5th.  Second however, just may go to Springfield Shawnee based upon their strong, 1st place showing in the Troy Regional and their experience at the State level.  They were 14th at State in 2010, with all five runners returning.  At the Troy Regionals their scorers went 2, 3, 4, 7 and 17.  Their 2nd, 3rd and 4th runners were only 12 seconds apart.   They are led by Jr. Michael Tymoski (2nd).  Tymoski is followed by Sr. Josh Richardson (3rd), Jr. Tyler Greenwod (4th), Jr. Austin Szekacs (7th) and Fr. Will Holmes (17th).

Third should go to Fairland.  They won the Pickerington Regional, led by 5th place Jr. Raine Wireman and 6th place, Sr. Tanner Mattie.  Their 3rd, 4th and 5th runners, Sr. Ryan Stewart (15th), Jr. Logan Rowe (17th) and  So. Chad McComas  (19th) were only separated by 4.5 seconds.

Four teams should battle for the 4th and 5th spots and it is very difficult choose any one over another.  Coming out of the Tiffin Region, only 5.3 seconds separated 2nd place Penninsula Woodridge and 3rd place, Van Wert.  In the Pickerington Regional, only 2.89 seconds separated 2nd Place Granville and 3rd place UniotoWoodridge is the 2010 Champion and returns the #5 Regional and 12th place State finisher, Jr. Drake Sulzer, Jr.  Matt  Wojcik and So. John Harry are the other returners.  Van Wert is led by 3rd place Regional finisher, Jr. Jared Fleming.  He is their only returner with State XC Meet experience.  Unioto  is led by Sr. Adrian Ross, the 1st place finisher in the Pickerington Regional and one of the favorites to win the D2 race.

OHRunners Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher

Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary should repeat as the D2 team champions.  Led by Jr. Marissa Rosetti, the 2nd place Tiffin Regional finisher, four of their five scorers were in the top 10.  So. Julia Mendiola (4th), Tessa Weigand (5th) and Amanda Sollenberger (9th).  Rosetti, Weigand and Sollenberger all return from last year’s championship team.   The team’s 5th runner is Fr. Shea O’Brien who placed 22nd at Regionals.

Cuyahoga  Valley Christian Academy was 2nd to St. Vincent-St. Mary at the Tiffin Regional.  They should take the number two spot at State.  They are led by Fr. Samantha Bockhoven who won the Regional race.  Bockhoven was followed by Sr. Sarah MacIntosh who was 6th and Jr’s. Mia Yeager (23rd) and Jr. Mallory Meyers (24th).  Meyers is the lone returning runner from the 2010 State meet. The teams 5th place runner is another Freshman, 25th place regional finisher, Natalie Pasicznyk.

Third place will go to Kettering Alter.  The Alter girl’s won the Troy Region under the guidance of Sr. Olivia Albers who finished 4th.  Joining Albers is So. Alex  Groene, who was 9th at regionals and a returning State runner.  The team’s # 3 and 4 runners are both Freshman.  Kyly Barton and Kristen Petrosky ran 22 and 23, just 13 seconds apart.  So. Austin Borton is the team’s 5th place runner.

Napoleon was 2nd in the Troy Regional and they should finish 4th at State.  Freshman Maddie Grooms was 9th at Regionals and leads the team.  She is followed by two Sophomores in the 2nd and 4th spots.  Alexa  Sonenberg (28th) and Hannah Westhoven (28th).  Sr. Meredith Hoops was 3rd   (25th) for the team at Regionals and Fr. Sarah Waisner was 5th   (45th).

Zane Trace was 1st at the Pickerington Regional , 6th at State last year and ranked #5 in the last OATCCC poll.  Poland Seminary won the Youngstown Regional and is led by the Klim sisters.  Jr. McKinsie Klim (3rd), Jr. Melissa Klim (16th) and Jr. Michelle Klim (25th).  The Klim’s are joined by Fr. Carli Sebest (6th) and Jr. Libby Rogenski (12th).  However, Poland has little experience at the State level and Zane Trace  gets  the nod for the #5 team based upon their experience at the State level.  Zane Trace’s Sr. Taylor Hatfield was 3rd at Regionals and 15th at State last season.  Jr. Jessie Proehl was 7th at Regionals and ran 38th last season at State.  Hatfield and Proehl are followed by So. Cecilia Wallace (28th), Jr. Emily Joosse (30th) and So. Eva Bugg (47th).
