TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams completed the first season of the Lou Snelling era on Saturday (Nov. 12) when they competed in the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.

In the men's 10,000-meter championship event, the Falcons placed 24th out of 31 teams.  Junior Jason Salyer was the leading runner for BGSU, as he finished 63rd overall with a final time of 31:43.6.  Freshman Kevin Budge completed the race in 32:59.8 to place second among the group of seven Falcon runners.

Wisconsin won the regional championship; Central Michigan (seventh) was top finisher among Mid-American Conference teams.  Butler's Callum Hawkins won the individual crown, while individual MAC champion Tecumseh Adams (CMU) finished fourth overall.

The women's team placed 33rd overall and was led by Saisha Gailliard.  Gailliard ran the 6,000-meter course in 24:37.8.  Taylor Stichter (25:17.4) and Alixe Korsnack (25:31.8) followed Gailliard in the overall standings.

Michigan featured the first- and second-place runners and three of the top five, as the Wolverines won the regional title.  MAC champion Toledo placed third.  Ohio's Julie Accurso, the individual MAC champion, was the league's top regional runner (sixth).

While the men's team will now break until next September and the start of the 2012 season; members of the women's team begin preparation for the track and field season, which begins in January.
