OHRunners Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher
The number one spot on the podium should go to St. Xavier. They finished 1st in the last OATCCC State poll and won the Troy Regional with just 30 points. At Troy, they ran 2, 3, 4, 10 and 11, with just 13 seconds separating their 1, 2 and 3 runners and their number 4 and 5 runners were just 16 and 17 seconds back. All five runners return from last year’s 6th place finish. They are led by Junior Michael Hall who was 2nd at Regionals in 15:39.17, just 1.3 seconds back of Tippacanoe’s Sam Wharton who has the State’ leading time this year. The teams number two runner is Senior Jake Grabowski who was 3rd at Regionals. Junior Evan Stifel was 4th at Regionals. The 4th and 5th runners are Michael Momper and Alex Kuvin.
St. Ignatius, the number two team last year, should capture the number two spot again. They are number two in the OATCCC poll and dominated the Tiffin Region. They have three returners from last year’s runner-up team. The team is led by Senior Joe Arquillo who was 2nd at Regionals in 16:04.92. Their number two runner is Senior Jack Miller, 3rd at Regionals, just 2.08 seconds back of Arquillo. Freshman Luke Wagner is their number 3 runner. He is just 1.99 seconds back of Miller. The number four and five runners are Senior’s Vince Bartram and Pat Scanlon. Their place on the podium just may be determined by their number three and five runners who have not run at State before.
Westerville North is the pick for 3rd on the strength of their number one and two runners. Senior’s Jacob Dumford and Kent Ford ran 1-2 at Regionals. Dumford is last year’s 10th place finisher and he and Ford have run virtually stride for stride all season. North’s position may be dependent upon their only non-returner from last year, their 4th runner, Freshman J Matt Parkhurst. Parkhurst was 27 at Regionals. Their 5th runner is senior Seth Wienrich who was their 6th place runner at State last year.
Mason is the pick for 4th, but they may finish higher. They are ranked 3rd in the OATTCC poll. They were second to St. Xavier in the Troy Regional. They were 9th last year. They have three returning runners from last year and are led by Junior Tom Clark who was 5th in Regionals with a 15:53.40. The other returners from last year are Senior’s Joey Stimler and Connor Van Blaircom.
The number five team should be Hilliard Davidson. They are the number 4 ranked team in the OATCCC poll and were second to Westerville North in the Pickerington Regional. They were the number four team last year at State. Davidson is led by Sophomore Colin Burdette who ran 4th at Regionals in 16:00.58. Their number 2, 3, and 4 runners all ran at State last year. Junior Garrett Knapik, Senior Anthony Caviolo and Junior Spencer Schlecht should pull Sophomore Luke Hoover. Davisdson’s strength is in the strength of their group. OHRunners Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher
This is perhaps the toughest of all the divisions to pick. McDonald is the defending D3 Champion. They are the number 2 team in the OATCCC Poll. They were defeated at the Boardman Regionals however by Maplewood, who is ranked 2nd in the OATCCC Poll. Seneca East won the Tiffin Regional defeating a tough Minster team. Garaway is ranked 5th in the Poll and won the Pickerington Regional and Summit Co. Day. was unranked, but had perhaps the best team showing, running away with the Troy Regional. I hope that no one is upset with the following, but here goes. It should be the best race of the day!
Maplewood will win the D3 Title. Maplewood returns 4 from last year’s 6th place State finish. They are led by Senior Wyatt Hartman who ran 7th in a fast Regional in 16:28.85. Hartman was 12th in 2011. Junior Solomon Yoder ran 10th at regionals with a 16:49.89. He was 83rd in 2011. Freshman Tristan Dahmen is the teams number 3 runner, placing 18th in Regionals in 17:00.69. Just under 6 seconds back of Dahmen is Sohomore Derek Morrison. Morrison was 20th at Regionals and ran 72nd in 2011. The teams number 5 runner at Regionals was Senior Mike Dahmen who placed 39 in 17:31.24. He was 87 in 2011.
Seneca East will be in the number 2 spot on the podium based upon the strength of their win in the Tiffin Regional with 4 runners in the top 15 and the fifth in 21st. They may challenge for the number one spot. All five runners were separated by only 25.20 seconds at regionals and all five are returners from last year’s 5th place State finish. Sophomore Mike Pipher leads the way, running 3rd at Tifin in 16:37.49. 46th in 2011. Sophomore Carson Pipher was 9th at Regionals in 16:47.18. 61st in 2011. Sophomore Jared Stockmaster ran 3rd for the team at Regionals posting a 16:48.50. He was 112th in 2011. Junior Jason Willman ran in the 4th spot with a time of 16:48.90. He was 13th in 2011. The only Senior on the team is Karl Burgderfer who ran in their th spot, finishing in 17:02.69. He was 93rd in 2011.
McDonald is the defending D3 Champion, but I have them in the 3rd position. There top 4 runners return to State and their position on the podium may rest on how their 5 & 6 runners fare. The team was led at Regionals by Junior Bobby Johnson. Johnson ran 3rd at Regionals in 16:06.17. He ran 23rd at State in 2011. Senior Patrick Kunkel was just behind Johnson in 4th with a time of 16:11.39. He ran 14 in 2011. The number 3 and 4 runners were 1:08.28 back on 2 and 3. Senior Tyler Smith was 30th at Regionals in 17:19.13 and Junior Alan Coviello was 31st in 17:19.67. Smith was 52 in 2011 and Coviello was 43rd. Sophomores Zach Hawout and David Natoli ran 45th and 46th for McDonald in 17:48.76 and 17:49.11.
Summit Co. Day. will be 4th unless they run at State the way they ran in the Troy regional. That would put them atop the podium. In the Troy regional they scored 34 points! 5th, 7th, 8th, 11th and 13th. The team was led by Sohomore Mason Moore ho ran 5th in 16:46.66. Senior Dale Lakes was the #2 runner in 16:58.88. Number 3 was Sophomore John Murdock in 16:59.81. 4 was Senior Chris Gallagher in 17:04.28. The #5 runner was Freshman Connor Shaw in 17:09.77. 23.11 seconds for 5th – 13th!
Garaway should be 5th if they don’t finish higher. They were 11th in 2011 and sit in the #4 spot in the OATCCC Poll. They are an experienced team. All five runners ran at State last year. Senior Logan Kettlewell won the Pickerington Regional with a time of 16:20.31. He was 19th at State in 2011. Senior Brady Yoder finished 4th at Regionals in 16:47.74. He was 36th in 2011. Junior Aex Shrock was 8th in 16:58.56 and ran 101st in 2011. The number 4 runner was Sophomore Blake Yoder who ran 17:35.95. He was 118th in 2011. Sophomore Caleb Morehart ran in their 5th spot at Regionals in 17:43.20. He was 115 in 2011.

OHRunners Team Predictions by Mark Stonecipher
Coldwater should win the team championship. They were 2nd last year and defeated defending champion Liberty Center in regionals by 9 points. They are ranked number 2 in the OATCCC Poll. All five of their top runners return. Sophomore Sarah Kanney ran a strong 18:33.06 wining the regional, besting defending State champion Brittany Atkinson of Liberty Center. Sarah was 9th in 2011. Her sister, Senior Jill Kanney ran 4th at Regionals in 19:19.33. She was 16th in 2011. Their number three runner at Regionals was last year’s second place State finisher, Junior Christina Seas (19:58.54). The number 4 runner is sophomore Lauren Seas. 10th at Regionals in 20:11.32 and 60 in 2011. The team championship may rest however, on sophomore Ashley Schoenherr, their number 5 runner. She was 40th at Regionals in 21:23.50 She ran 68th in 2011. A strong performance by her puts Coldwater on top!
Minster is #1 In the OATCCC Poll. They were 8th at State in 2011 and won the Troy Regional by 4 points over Russia. Senior Hanna Butler, 8th at Regionals in 19:59.27 (51st in 2011) leads a group of underclassman, who that will put them on the podium as the 3rd place team. The number 2, 3 and 4 runners are all Freshman. Katherine Burker was 10th at regionals, just 5.92 seconds back of Butler. She is followed by Lisa Barlage who was 14th at Regionals in 20:14.21 and Kaci Barnhorst who ran 18th with 20:15.51. The 5th runner at Regionals was Junior Leah Niekamp who finished 23rd and the 6th runner was Sophomore Gabrielle Barga who finished just 1.18 seconds behind Niekamp in 24th. Also can’t forget to mention that their 7th runner is another Freshman, Julia Slonksy who ran 37 in 21:13.56.
Russia should be in 3rd if they don’t win it! They are led by 3 strong runners who went 2, 3, and 4 at Regionals. Sophomore Emily Borchers ran 19:19.04. Senior Lauren Francis ran 19:23.35 and Freshman Lauren Heaton ran 19:33. Francis is the only State returner, running 15th in 2011. Russia’s weakness is the separation between their number three runner and their number 4 and 5 runners. The number 4 runner at Regionals was another Freshman, Molly Kearns who finished 31st in 21:02.81. The number 5 runner was Junior Kirstin Voisard who was 40 in 21:15.06. If Kearns and Voisard improve only a few positions, they just may be atop the podium.
Gilmour is the number 3 ranked OATCCC team. They were 9th in 2011 and should finish 4th this year. They dominated the Boardman Regional, scoring 47 points. The team has four of five runner returning from last year’s State run. Senior Alexis Anton led the team at Regionals, running 5th in 19:44.38. she was 31 in 2011. The number 9 runner at Regionals was Freshman Hannah Markel. (19:53.89) Gilmour’s number 3 runner was another Freshman, Catherine Dolohanty. She was 11th at Regionals in 20:16.09. The number 4 runner was Caitlin Whetstone who was 15th in 20:16.09. She was 65 in 2011. She was followed by Halle Markel in 16th with a 20:17.16. Halle was 24 in 2011.
Liberty Center is the defending State Champion. They are ranked 4th in the OATCCC Poll and ran a strong 2nd to Coldwater in the Tiffin Regional. If their 5th runner Freshman Rachel Pinson runs strong, they may jump from 5th on the podium to even 1st. She ran 31 in regionals with a 21:08.47. She was 29.36 seconds behind their number 4 runner, Freshman Olivia Kundo who placed 16th. Center’s number 3 runner was Junior Paige Chamberlain. She was 15th and just .56 seconds ahead of Kundo. The number one and two runners are defending State Champion Sophomore Brittany Atkinson, who ran 3rd at Regionals in 18:53.57 and Senior Kelly Haubert who ran 5th in 19:20.45.
