Fout and Durkin Break Course Records at Mid-East Champs Scott Bush Nov 17, 2007

The Mid-East Cross Country Championships produced two new course records Saturday as the competitors ran in near perfect weather.  Mike Fout (IN) ran away from Maverick Darling (MI) in the final 300 meters of the race to win in 14:59.  Ohio won the team race by ten over Michigan.  In the girls race Claire Durkin destroyed the field by forty seconds, with Michigan scoring a three point win over Ohio.

Highlights from Nov 10-19: PA finished 4th in both the girls and boys races at the annual Mid-East Regional Champs 11/17 in Ohio. Boyertown's Mark Dennin (in photo by Liz Bollens) was the lead PA guy in third.  Nazareth Academy's Megan Lutz led the girls in 10th. Also on 11/17, the Girard Avenue Hawks won the Jesuits Schools Champs with 21 points behind a 1-2-3 finish at Van Cortlandt Park 2.5 mile loop. On Nov 17, Slippery Rock was the top men's team at 9th, and Bloomsburg was the tom women's team at 15th in the NCAA Division II Champs. Also on the 17th, three PA schools finished in the top ten at the NCAA Division III Champs, with Haverford 2nd, Allegheny 7th and Carnegie Mellon 9th. The Dickinson College women were the top PA team, finishing 13th. Earlier results posted from Mid-Atlantic AAU 11/10. Also on 11/10, in her annual tune-up to the NE Foot Locker regional Nov 24th, Shippensburg senior Neely Spence ran a very quick 17:19 in the New York Road Runners XC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park - the 4th best all-time. Boiling Springs senior Kara Millhouse ran her best time ever on the course, going 18:47. Also in New York was the Germantown Friends team, who are tuning up for the NTN North East Regional, also on the 24th. Max Kaulbach - in a 'if I were to run Foot Lockers mode' - went 15:43. Jake McKenzie was in at 16:05, Isaac Ortiz at 16:24 and Gus McKenzie at 16:35.

  Since 1987 the Mid-East Cross Country Championships have brought together states in the Mid-East to match-up their top runners against one another.  This year six states compete in the field.  Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania are bringing some of their best to earn regional bragging rights.

Runners from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Michigan converge at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering, Ohio on Saturday, November 17 at the Mid-East Cross Country Championships.  This year's Illinois team is stacked with talent, as both teams should  perform quite well against the competition.  See who made the team.
