4x800 Meter Relay

All of the top D2 times in the State were run at Regionals. The fastest time was run by Lexington with a 9:26.16 in winning Region 6. Archbishop Alter has the second fastest time with a 9:31.19 in winning Region 8. #3 was run by CVCA in winning Region 5 with a 9:34.01. The Region 7 winner was West Holmes and they have the #4 qualifying time of 9:35.67. Lexington may run away with this one.

110m Hurdles

Last year State placers 1 and 3-7 all return with 5 girls under 15.00. Jr. Jazmine Smith of North College Hill is the defending champion. she won in 2014 with a 14.80 and run 14.61 this season (OH #9). #4 last year was Jr. Natalie Eberts of Sheridan. she ran 15.24. #5 in 2014 was Sr. Ciera Rose of West Holmes. She ran 15.44 last year and has run 15:46 this year. #6 a year ago was Jr. Trinity Hall of Orrville. She ran 15.53 and has run 15:05 this year. #7 was Jr. Hannah Thomas of Valley View. she ran 15.58 and has run the same this year. The fastest qualifier is Sr. Cheyanne Carter of Eastmoor. She comes in with a 14.08 and is ranked OH #3. she was the Region 6 winner. Jr. Peyton Lee of Napolean ran 14.07 at Regionals but is ranked OH #2 with a 14.07. She was 3rd last year in 15.21. Orange Jr. Jasmine Harris is ranked #10 OH and has run 14.62. The State Meet Record is 14.14 set in 2003 by Ashley Trimble of Col. Hamiltown Township and the Div. 2 record is 14.02 set in 2010 by Chelsea Scott of Hartley. Carter could eclispse both.

100m Dash

Jr. Michaela Butler of Liberty-Benton set a new state record in her District Meet of 11.80. she ran 11.87 at Regionals. She is ranked OH #2 and is the defending State D2 champion with a time of 12.15. The #2 regional qualifying time of 12.17 was run by Jr. Diamond Cummings of Cleveland JFK. Sr. Alexandra Carnathan of Youngstown Ursuline was 3rd in 2014 and has the #3 time out of Regionals with a 12.21. She ran 12.39 last year.Sr. Simone Green of Buchtel was 7th in 2014 with a 12.64. She ran the #4 qualifying time of 12.25. So. Regan Clay of Rossford has a 12.27 . So. Jamari McDavid of Kenton Ridge was 6th last year with a time of 12.64. She qualified out of Regionals with a 12.61. The question is will Butler break her own State record?

4x200 Meter Relay

Only three teams come out of Regionals with times under 1:44.The fastest time belongs to Region 5 winner Beaumont who ran 1:43.41. Meadowdale has the 2nd fastest time of 1:43.52 with a win in Region 8. the other team under 1:44 is the Regon 6 winner, Galion who ran 1:43.91. The Region 7 winner was Smithville who won their Region with a time of 1:46.74. They have run 1:45.66. Beaumont, Meadowdale and Galion should battle for the top spot on the podium.

1600m Run

The 2014 Girls D2 1600 was one of the two day highlights. Defending champion Sr. Sammy Bockoven of CVCA is back to defend . She won with a time of 4:49.53. However, she is ranked D2 #2 and OH #4 with a 4:57.25. Last years #5 finisher, Jr. Dominique Clairmonte of Lexington is OH #2 and D2 #1 with a time of 4:56.03. Clairmonte won the D2 State XC Championship last Fall. D2 #3 and OH #5 is Jr. Abby Nichols of Alter. She ran 4:58.12 in her Region 8 win. Sr. Sarah Kaney of Coldwater was 3rd last year with a 4:53.66. She was the 2012 and 2013 1600 Champion with a 5:00.97 and 4:55.26. She is a 2X D3 State XC Champion. She was 2nd in Region 8 with a 5:00.63. Wauseon Sr. Taylor Vernot was 2nd in 2014 with a 4:53.34 and she comes in with a qualifying time of 5:12.30. Bockhoven and Clairmonte will fight for the top spot. This should once again be a highlight race.

4x100 Meter Relay

Galion was the Region 6 winner and has the fastest qualifying time of 49.20. They are D2 OH #1 ranked. The 2nd fastest time belongs to Eastmoor who ran 40,34 at Regionals. Beaumont won Region 5 and is ranked D2 #2 with a 49.33. The Region 8 winner was Versailles with a 49.77 and the Region 7 winner was Steubenville with a 50.50. Woodridge, Oak Harbor, Chaminade Julienne and Clear Fork all come in with Regional times under 50. This will be very close and to close to pick a winner.

400 Meter Dash

D2 #1 is So. Regan Clay of Rossford. She won Region 6 with a 54.81. She was 3rd last year with a 56.03. Jr. Tiona Lattimore of Cin.Hughes is ranked D2 #2 and has run 56.49. So. Aziza Ayoub or Jonathan Alder is ranked D2 #3 and has a qualifying time of 56.81. she was 2nd in Region 6. so. Rachel Miller of Ontario is the only other girl under 57.. she was 4th last year and is ranked #6 this year with a 56.94. Clay should win.

300 Meter Hurdles

Jr. Jasmine Harris of Orange is the defending Champion. She ran 43.65 last year and has a D2 #1 43.44 this year in winning Region 5. Two other runners are under 44. Jr. Peyton Lee of Napoleon won Region 8 with a 43.49 and Jr. Jessica Eby of Orrville was the Region 6 winner with a time of 43.84. She was 2nd in 2014 with a 44.12. Hathaway Brown Jr. Sophie Richards is the only other girl under 45. She has run 44.96. Last years' #1 and #2 will go at it again for the title.

800 Meter Run

Jr. Andra Lehotay of Sandy Valley has the fastest D2 time in the state with a 2:14.26. She won the OATCCC State D2/3 800 with a time of 2:17.80. The second fastest time belongs to the Region 7 winner Jr. Alexis Gray of Washington Court House. Gray won the Region with a time of 2:15.71. So. Leah Recker of Liberty-Benton has the 3rd fastest time with a 2:16.86. she was 9th last year and was the Region 6 winner. CVCA Sr. Sammy Bockoven was 4th last year after winning the 1600 with a time of 2:15.07. Her Regional qualifying time is 2:18.09. Last year's 5th place finisher with a time of 2:16.29 was Jr. Abby Nicols of Alter. She qualified with a 2:18.63. Sr. Elissa Ellerbock of Ottawa-Glandorf was 8th last year with a time of 2:17.41. she has run 2:17.70 this year. Jr. Hanna Clark of West Holmes is the only other girl who has run under 2:18. She qualified with a 2:18.73, but has run 2:16.50 this season. Bockoven and Nicols will be coming off of the 1600. My pick is a fresh Lehotay to win.

200 Meter Dash

Only two girls are under 25. The defending Champion Jr. Michaela Butler of Liberty-Benton. She won last year with a 24.86 and won Region 6 with a 24.19 (Oh #2). So. Regan Clay of Rossford was 2nd to Butler in Region 6 with a time of 24.55(OH #6). Sr. Jazmin Smith of North College Hill qualified with a 25.52, but has run a D2 #3 24.79 this season. Sr. Simone Green of Buchtel was 6th last year in 25.38 and won Region 5 in 25.12. Clay and Butler should go 1-2 again and Butler may challenge the State D2 Record of 24.04 set by Girard's Cachet Murray int 2004.

3200 Meter Run

Jr. Dominique Clairmonte of Lexington is doubling and will be coming off the 1660. She has an OH #2 time in the 3200 with a 10:43.69. Wauseon Sr. Taylor Vernot was 3rd last year after her 1600, running 11:11.14. She has a has a D2 #6 ranking with a time of 11:15. Sr. Sarah Kanney of Coldwater will be doubling as well and has the credential to win. she won Region 8 iwth an 11:16.32 and has run a D2 #3 time of 11:08.97. So. Maddie Dunlap of Carrolton was 6th last year in 11:23. She ran 11:21.41 to qualify. So. Michelle Hostetler of West Holmes is D2 #2 with a 11:08 run last week in Regionals. Jr. Mary Kate Vaughn of Oakwood has battled injuries the last two years after an outstanding Fr. year. She was 7th last year in 11:27.41 and 2nd in Region 8 with a 11:21.11 My pick is Clairmonte as only three girls are under 11:20 and she is the only one under 11:00. this year.

4x400 Meter Relay

Versailles was 2nd last year running 3:57.11. They come in after Regionals with the 2nd fastest time of 4:02.52. The fastest qualifying time is that of SVSM with a Region 5 winning time of 4:00.02. The 3rd fastest time is that of Beaumont with a 4:04.14. None of the other qualifying times are below 4:05. I don't think the qualifying times are indicative of how this race will go. The Podium is open.

Discus Throw


One girl has throw over 140' and is 9' further than the #2 girl. So. Lauren Jones of Garfield is ranked D2 #1 with a throw of 148-07. She was 6th in 2014 with a throw of 125-02.D2 #1 is Sr. Alyssa Wright of Salem. She qualified out of Regionals with a throw of 131-03 but has thrown 146-0 this year. Sr. Nicolette Kreatsoulas of Poland Seminary was 2nd last year with a throw of 127-10. She has a D2 #3 throw of 139-01. D2 #4 is Sr. Abbey Wilson of Carrolton with a throw of 138-4. She threw 134-02 in Regionals. Elmwood Sr. Katie Dewey threw 133-02 in Regionals and has the D2 #6 throw of 134-9. the only other girl over 130' is So. Kayla Barreca of Newton Falls with a throw of 133-06.

High Jump

The defending Champion is Jr.Paula Wollenslegel of Clyde. She won with a leap of 5-08. She is ranked D2 #2 and OH #5. The #1 qualifier is Fr. Marisa Gwinner of Galion. She is ranked D2 #1 and OH #1 with a jump of 5-08.5. Joining Wollenslegel and Gwinner with a jump over 5-5 is is Fr. Lilly Ritz of Cambridge with a jump of 5-06. it should be a good competition. Will the girls go over 5-08.?

Long Jump

The LJ features the defending Champion and OH #* and #2. So. Jamari McDavid of Kenton Ridge won last year with a jump of 18-05.75. she has jumped 18-04.50 this season. The D2 #1 and OH #2 jumper is Sr. Ja'la Henderson of Meadowdale. She jumped 19-01.50 last week in winning Region 8. The other jumper over 18' is So. Ma'kayla Allen of Defiance. She was 4th last year with a leap of 17-05.50 and is D2 #4 this season with a jump of 18-00.25. If Henderson hits, she should win.

Shot Put


Seven girls have qualified with throws over 40'. However, Garfield Sr. Edith Svonavec has throw just over 3' further than anyone else in the competition. She is ranked #1 OH with a throw of 44-07.75. She is also the defending Champion having thrown 45-06.07 last year. OH #3 with a throw of 42-05. is Sr. Alexis Dowdy of Van Wert. She was 4th last year with a throw of 42-03. Sr. Stephanie Massey of Cambridge threw 40-07. at Regionals but has an OH #2 throw of 42-06.25. The other girls over 40' are : Jr. Morissa Mallory of Port Clinton (40-11.75), Jr. Brenda Johnson of Bellefontaine (40-04.) and Sr. Johanna Ragland of Lutheran West (40-00.50).

Pole Vault

Sr. Savannah Amato of River Valley Caledonia is one of three girls over 12-00, she is ranked OH #5 with a vault of 12-04.00 D2 #3 is Allison Plybon of Orrville who has gone 12.00. So. Jenna Frantz of Versailles went 11-02. in Regionals, but has a vault of 12-00 this year. Two other girls come in with vaults over 11-00: Fr. Emma Swisher of Liberty Benton(11-00.25), Sr. Maddie Reed of Piketon (11-00.). Amato has been consistent this year, but the competition may come down to fewer misses.
