4x800 Meter Relay


St. Thomas Aquinas is the defending champion. In 2014, they set a new State meet and D3 record of 9:11.66. that team was made up of Jr. Athena Welsh, Fr. Kalee Soehnlen, Fr. Kacee Soehnlen and Sr. Molly Pusateri. This year they are ranked D3 OH #1 with a 9:20.98 and are joined by Fr. Hannah Soehnlen. They are the Region 9 champions. Only two other teams join Aquinas with times under 9:30; D3 OH #2 Gilmour Academy has run 9:27.23 and was 2nd in Region 9 and the Region 12 winners, Minster, have run 9:29.62. The Aquinas girls should win. The only question is can they challenge their own record?

110m Hurdles


Edgerton Sr. Cassidy Flegal is the Region 10 winner and is ranked D3 OH #1 with a time of 14.81. D3 OH #2 is Maddy McDermott of Rittman. She qualified with a 15.53, but has run 14.93. Two other girls ran in the finals last year and are back; Sr. Lea Francis of Russia was 4th last year in 15:21 and last years #9 placer, Gabby Burchett of Fairbanks is D# OH #5 and the region 11 winner with a time of 15:40. Flegal has the edge in time, but will need to be clan and fast as the others will be with her.

100m Dash

Three girls return from last years finals. Jr. Taylor Middleton of Dayton Miami Valley School was 4th in 2014 with a 12.49. She is ranked D3 OH #2 with a 12.40 this year and is the Region 12 winner. Sr. Kendall Reynolds of Gilmour academy was 6th last year in 12.66. She is D3OH #4 with a 12.44 and was 2nd in Region 10. Sr. Brittany Holbrook of Upper Scioto Valley was 8th last year with a 12.73. She is D3 OH #3 and the Region 10 winner in a time of 12.41. However, the fastest time in the field is held by Jr. Abby Caldwell of Hannibal River with a 12.37 winning Region 11 time. She is ranked D3 OH #1. D3 OH #5 is Marion Local Sr. Allie Thobe. She qualified with a 12.88, but has run 12.50. The D3 record of 11.75 shouldn't be challenged but if Caldwell runs what she is capable of, she should win.

4x200 Meter Relay


D3 OH #'s 1-4 should battle this out. St. Thomas Aquinas won Region 9 with a D3 OH #1 time of 1:45.11. Region 10 was won by Archbold in the #2 time of 1:45.46. Region 12 was won by #3 Minster in 1:45.88. Region 11 was won by Worthington Christian in a #4 1:46.14. Aquinas and Worhington Christian will go at it in Heat 1. Archbold and Minster in heat 2. Two other teams are under 1:47. Spencerville is in heat 1 with a 1:46.83 and Haviland Wayne Trace is in heat 2 with a 1:46.21. Another relay that is too close to call.

1600m Run

Jr. Athena Welsh of St. Thomas Aquinas is the defending State champion. She won with a time of 5:02.98. She has a D3 OH #1 time of 4:58.76 and is the region 9 Champion. This should be an interesting race however as Liberty Center Sr. Brittany Atkinson is D3 OH #2 with a 5:03.43. She is the defending 3200m champion (10:53)and a two time State XC champion. The 3rd fastest time belongs to Jr. Hannah Markel of Gilmour Academy. She has run 5:06.67 (D3 OH #3) and was the runner up in Region 9. Also under 5:10 is Jr. Rachel Reolfi of Canton Central Catholic who has run 5:09.02 (D3 OH #4) in placing 3rd in Region 9.

4x100 Meter Relay

Just 1.72 seconds separate all of the qualifiers. D3 Oh #'1-5 all qualified. The fastest time is that of the Region 12 winners, Cin. Shroder who come in with a 50.04. They are one of two D3 teams that have run under 50. They have the #1 ranking with a 49.90. The number 2 time goes to St. Thomas Aquinas with a 50.17. they are the Region 9 winners and have a #2 ranking of 49.94. The #3 ranking is held by Minster with a 50.35. They finished 2nd to Shroeder in Region 12. #4 is Spencerville with a 50.46 and #5 is the region 10 winner Archbold with a time of 50.63. Not going to call this one.

400 Meter Dash

This will be a great race to watch as the top five finishers from 2014 all return. They were separated by .57 last year. The defending champion is Jr. Lauren Heaton of Russia. She won in a time of 57.56. She has a qualifying time of 58.06. 2nd last year was Jr. Eleanor Smith of the Columbus School for Girls. She ran 57.73. She has a qualifying time of 59.95. #3 last year with a time of 57.56 was Maggie Poorman of Smithville. She is the Region 9 winner this year and has run 58.06. #4 last year was Gibsonburg Sr. Coleen Reynolds with a 57.56. She qualified this year with a 57.78. #5 last year was Jr. Micah Johnston of Toledo Christian. She ran 57.86 at State and comes in this year with the fastest qualifying time and a D3 OH #1 56.07. Joining Johnston with times under 57. are the Region 11 winner, Sr. Julia Rizk of Gahanna Columbus Academy and Jr. Rebekah Carr of Gibsonburg with a 56.82. There is a lot of experience in this race and all five should battle again for the #1 spot on the podium.

300 Meter Hurdles

Five girls qualified with times under 46.00 including D3 OH #1-4. Jr. Maddy McDermott of Rittman has the fastest D3 time in the State this year with a 45.48. She qualified with a 45.76. She was 5th in the 2014 State meet with a 45.28. D3 OH #2 is Sr. Whitney Barnhorst of Botkins. She won Region 12 with a 45.55.The #3 time is held by Sr. Gabby Burchett of Fairbanks. She was the Region 11 winner with a time of 45.56 and was 9th in last years race. The #4 time was run by Jr. Olivia Quinter of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic who has run 45.63. The fifth girl with a qualifying time under 46.00 is Jr. Allison Schwarzbek of Sherwood Fairview with a 45.91. One other girl, Abby Caldwell of Hannibal River qualified with a 46.17 but has a #6 time of 45.30 this year. the finals will be close and it would be difficult to pick.

800 Meter Run


Two girls come in with times under 2:15. The Region 11 winner was Sr. Julia Rizk of Columbus Academy. Rizk ran an D3 OH #4 time of 2:16.90 and is the defending Champion running a winning time last year of 2:14.30 The fastest Regional qualifying time was 2:13.80 by Minster Fr. Cassie Mangette in winning Region 12. Her time is D3 OH #2. Aquinas So. Kalee Soehnlen ran 2:16.13, but is ranked #1 with a 2:13.53. So. Rachel Sweeney of Xenia Christian was 2nd in Region 12 with a 2:16.18 and is ranked #3. The Region 11 winner was Sr. Julia Rizk of Columbus Academy. Rizk ran an D3 OH #4 time of 2:16.90 and is the defending Champion running a winning time last year of 2:14.30. Sr. Christian Dornback of Berkshire was 5th last year with a time of 2:17.54 and comes in with a Regional time of 2:18.62

200 Meter Dash

D# OH's #1-6 all qualified from Regionals. Almost half of the field is under 26,00. Regin 10 winner, Sr. Brittany Holbrook of Upper Scioto Valley comes in with an D3 OH #1 of 25.12. Jr. Micah Johnston of Toledo Christian qualified with a 25.65 but has #2 with a 25.40. #3 is held by Sr. Madison Kleinschmit of Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic. She has run 25.45 and was 2nd in Regon 10 and 6th last year in 25.78. Sr. Colleen Reynolds of Gibsonburg was 3rd in Region 10 with a #4 ranking of 25.50. The Region 9 winner Jr. Rachael Adams of St. Thomas Aquinas is at #5 with a 25.74. #6 is the second place finisher in Region 9, Sr. Maggie Poorman of Smithville with a 25.80. She was 8th last year. Sr. Allie Thobe of Maria Stein Marion Local qualified with a 26.38 but was 4th last year with a 25.74.

3200 Meter Run

Liberty Center Sr. Brittany Atkinson is the defending champion. She ran 10:53.48 last year. She qualified with a 11:28.64 and is ranked D3 #4 this year with a 11:12.68. #1 Ranked is Aquinas' Athena Welsh who was 2nd in Region 9 with an 11:12.76. Welsh has the #1 time in the State of 10:47.52. #2 is Jr. Rachel Wentworth of Garaway. She was the Region 9 winner in 11:11.69, but has run 11:00.92. She was 4th last year with a 11:28.64. #3 is Hannah Markel of Gilmour Academy. She was 4th in Region 9 with a 11:19.75 and has run 11:11.99. She was 8th last year with an 11:33.71. Jr. Holly Miller of Canton Central Catholic has the #5 spot in the State with a 11:16.32. She was 3rd in the the Region 9 race. Welsh and Atkinson will be coming off of a tough 1600, but both are capable of the double. Wentworth will go with them. A lot will depend on the 1600.

4x400 Meter Relay

D3 OH #'s 1-5 and #8 all qualified. Archbold, Minster and Aquinas were 1,2 & 3 last year. This year only one team comes in under 4:00 and that is Minster who has run 3:58.68. They were the Region 12 winner.Archbold qualified in 4:03.66 and was the Region 10 winner. St. Thomas Aquinas was the Region 9 winner with a D3 OH #2, 4:00.98. Fairbanks has the #3 ranking with a 4:02.25. They were the Region 11 winner. Gilmour Academy was 2nd in Region 9 with a 4:02.32 and is ranked #4. Botkins ran 2nd in Region 12 with a 4:02. 58 and is ranked #5. If you just go by times run, Minster should win, but it's the 4x400!

Discus Throw

Two girls standout in the discus. Jr. Daija Young of Trinity was 2nd last year with a throw of 149-01. She comes in with a D3 OH #2 of 149-10 which she threw in winning Region 9. D3 OH #1 is Sr. Holly Averesch of Leipsic. She was 5th last year with a 141-08 but has thrown 155-0 this year. One other girls has throw over the 140-0 mark. Jr. Lyne'a Diller of Columbus Grove qualified with a 140-03 and is ranked #3 with a 148-6 this year. It will take a 150-00 throw to win . Young and Averesch have show that they both can go over 150-00.

High Jump

Five girls have gone over 5-5 this year. So. Brooke Mangas of Ottoville is D3 OH #1 with a 5-8. Aleah Bailey of Margaretta has jumped 5-6 and is #3. #4 is So. Bridgette Rettstatt of Worthington Christian. She has jumper 5-5. Tied with Rettstatt with a 5-5 is Sr. Tess Burns of Manchester. She was the Region 11 winner. Sr. Carolyn Webster of Fredericktown has also gone 5-5 and was 3rd last year with a 5-6. Can't call this one but if Mangus hits 5-8 again she just may win.

Long Jump

Three girls are over 18' this year and one over 19'. Jr. Taylor Middleton of Miami Valley has gone 19-01.50 and leads the State. She was the Region 12 winner and placed 5th last year at State with a 17-02.50. #2 in D3 in the state is Jr. Meredith Haddad of Troy Christian. She ahs jumped 18-0.75 and was 4th last year with a leap of 17-05.75. #3 is Sr. Allie Thobe of Maria Stein Marion Local. She was 2nd in Region 12 with a jump of 18-00.50.

Shot Put

Five girls have throw over 40'. Leipsic Sr. Holly Averesch leads the way with a D3 ranking of #1 with a 45-0. She qualified out of Regionals with a 44-05.25. Just behind her is Jr. Daija Young of Trinity. She was 6th last year with a 40-11 and has throw 44-8.75 this year. Jr.Lyne'a Diller of Columbus Grove has thrown 41-5.. She was 4th last year with a throw of 41-09.25. Also with a 41-5 is So. Abby Moore of Rootstown. She was 9th last year with a 36-06. The other 40 footer is Jr. Emily Mescher of Maria Stein Marion Local with a throw of 40-2. this year. Averesch and Young will battle it out, but Averesch has been throwing consistently around the 45 mark.

Pole Vault

Sr. Roxy Dunn of Garaway is the defending State Champion with a vault of 12-00. last year. She leads the State this year with a vault of 12-4. Only one other girl in the field has gone 12.00 and that is Sr. Maria Minster who won Region 12 with a vault of 12-00. Fr. Kassidie Stimmel of Margaretta won Region 10 with a vault of 11-8. Dunn should defend her title.
