Two Day Running Event to Begin the Cross Country Season and Benefit Children with Cancer

Moeller High School has a long standing tradition of opening up the season with the Henry Jacquez Meet. The races take place on the scenic Landmark Baptist campus which is conveniently located off I-75 in Cincinnati. This two day event offers a competitive course for all local junior high and high school runners. To give back to the community and fulfill their Marianist mission they also host the InsideOut5k. This exciting 5k race is open to the public, both runners and walkers, and all proceeds go to the Kelly Carol Foundation for Children with Cancer. They are a local charity that helps children with cancer and their families.

“We wanted to contribute to a great charity and do it in a way that has meaning to our cross country team. Hosting a 5k was a perfect fit,” said former head coach Kevin Kohls. The concept for the race is simple: a cancer diagnosis turns life insideout. We ask that runners show allegiance to all those with cancer by turning their shirts insideout while participating in the race. For a better understanding of the devastating affect a cancer diagnosis can have, read Kelly’s account: http://www.insideout5k.com/kellywords.html.

The Henry Jacquez Cross Country races will begin with the junior high competitions taking place 6:45 p.m. Thursday, August 27. The InsideOut5k will take place, 7:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29 with the high school events immediately following. A unique feature of the high school competition is the addition of a “Rookie Race” that offers young runners a shorter course than the traditional 5k. Awards are given to team and individual runners.

Those interested in running the InsideOut5k should go to the website for more information: www.insideout5k.com . We welcome teams as well as individual runners for this event.
