When Cody Lacewell was in first grade, his mother died of cancer. With his father out of the picture, Lacewell, who recently graduated from Oak Hills High School, turned to his grandfather, Curtis Boyd, for guidance – not to mention a home.

Midwest Top 12 Individual Rankings: Nicolls, Flood Lead the Way Scott Bush Aug 25, 2008

2007 showed a distinct disparity between the strength of the Midwest boys and girls at Foot Locker Nationals. While the Midwest boys dominated the team competition at Foot Locker Nationals, the girls finished in fourth. This year the boys look strong, led by the Colorado contingent of Evan Appel, Joseph Manilafasha and Bobby Nicolls (pictured left to right above by John Herzog), while the girls look to rebound and show they can compete with anyone.

MileSplit\'s Foot Locker Power Rankings - Midwest Girls Scott Bush Aug 31, 2007

Last December, the Midwest girls won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships team title.  They completed the task with amazing precision, placing their top five scorers in the top twelve spots.  This year, the Midwest girls are looking just as strong, as four returnees will be duking it on for a team spot again, and a slew of young talent tires to break through.   Two girls from Ohio are ranked in the top twelve and two more Ohio girls are mentioned to keep an eye on.
