The 2013 Wayne Invitational will be another true balance of sprints, hurdles, distance and field events. The team championship is truly up for grabs, for both boys and girls. The talent includes state champions, state placer, and state qualifers. The potential for a state record is always a possibility. The Wayne Invitational has been the place for state records set in the Girls Division 2 long jump, Girls divison 3 pole vault, boys Division 1 discus and boys Hammer throw. Will another be set this year? Come down May 2nd and May 3rd and find out.

Sprints
100 Meter Dash
Returnees - Brianna Woods of Wayne 12.53 runner up last year, Ashley Blake from Hilliard Davidson went 12.60 and was 4th, Todda Norris from Troy, 12.78 placing 6th, teammate Shanelle Byrd of Troy was 7th, and Devane Mitchell of Chaminade Julienne made the finals (scratched).
Lakota East Autumn Heath is the cream of the crop for the girls sprinters. She owns a 2013 best of 12.03. Woods owns a personal best of 12.34, while Blake has run 12.27 before. Fairborn's Aaliyah Patton has a personal best of 12.54 (converted), Daniella Johnson of Gahanna Lincoln brings in a time of 12.58, Centerville Kelsey Lubbe 12.60, Gracie Huffman of Troy 12.71,Bernia White and CC Wilson of Mason have both gone 12.84, while Elisha Cooper and Jasmine Phennix of Northmont both bring in times of 12.85. That's 14 girls under 12.85 in this race.
200 Meter Dash
Woods (25.60), Norris (26.08, personal best of 25.61), Justine Miller (26.42, personal best of 25.80) of Fairmont, and Ashley Rector (26.69) of Troy were 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th last year respectively, Mitchell qualified for finals, too but scractched in the finals.
Heath from Lakota East comes in with a best time 24.54, while Woods has gone 25.11. Heath's teammate Kelisa Mbah has gone 25.74 (converted), Samia Bell of Princeton has gone 25.84, Bianca Rhodenbaugh of Sycamore has gone 25.86, Cooper of Northmont has gone 25.92, Brianna Keys of Mason has gone26.34, Gracie Huffman of Troy 26.46, Mikayla Clark of Lebanon has gone 26.52. This should be a great finals race with the talent listed. The meet record of 24.89 was set last year and could be in jeopardy this year.
400 Meter Dash
Rector of Troy is top returner, placing 2nd last year in 59.51 (owns personal best of57.50). Alexa Jennings of Centerville (60.55 owns personal best of 59.23)4th, Tiese Carr (61.10) of Xenia 5th, Ivy Beddow of Mason (61.76, owns personal best of 58.68) 6th, and Miller of Fairmont (62.01) 8th round out the top returners in the event.
Samantha Murray of Defiance is the division 2 state runner up in the event with a personal best of 56.21 in 2011, and was 3rd in 2012. Sycamore's Bianca Rhodenbaugh has gone 58.34, Gracie Huffman of Troy has gone 59.70, Fairborn's Aaliyah Patton has gone 60.12 (owns pr of 58.12), Michelle McKinney of Eaton has gone 60.44 (converted, has gone 59.91), Vada Edwards of Middletown has gone 60.85 this year, but also owns a pr of 57.88. Mason's Delaney McDowell has goen 59.97, Allison Klonne of Sycamore has gone 59.65, Bell of Princeton has gone 60.91, Rachel Herman of Fairmont has gone 61.22, Francesca Bowhser of Gahanna Lincoln has gone 61.30. That's 11 girls under 60 seconds entered in the event.
4x100m Relay
Gahanna Lincoln has gone, 48.12 and is the state leader in the event, Lakota East 48.85 is good enough for second in the state, followed by Wayne 49.24 6th in state, Xenia 49.34 (converted, 7th in state), Mason 49.38 8th , Fairborn 49.44 (converted, 10th ), Sycamore 49.73, Fairmont 50.04 (converted, 18th ) and Troy 50.19 22nd in state round out a very fast 4x100 competition.
4x200m Relay
Nothing really changes in the 4x200 as Gahanna Lincoln comes in with the 5th best time in the state with 1:43.69, followed by Wayne 1:44.00 (7th best in the state), Princeton has gone 1:45.50, Mason 1:45.52, Troy 1:45.56, Centerville 1:47.11, Xenia 1:47.86, Sycamore 1:48.31, Granville 1:48.41 and Fairmont 1:48.56. That's 6 teams under 49.73 in the 4x100 and 5 teams under 1:45.56 in the 4x200!
4x400m Relay
In the girls 4x400, Sycamore has gone 4:01.92, 4th fastest time in the state, while Troy has the 9th best time in the state, going 4:05.38. Wayne (11th) has gone 4:06.35, Gahanna Lincoln 4:06.51 (13th), Mason 4:08.00 (16th), Fairmont 4:09.70, Centerville 4:10.33, Westerville North 4:10.51, Lebanon 4:11.50, Hilliard Davidson 4:12.15, and Fairborn 4:12.84. That makes 7 teams under 4:10!
Hurdles
100 Meter Hurdles
Top returnees are Ellie Wiedemen of Springboro, Erionna Ballard of Wayne and Samantha Shook of Ansonia, placing 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
Mason's Jordan Horning has gone 15.14, MiAngel Daniels of Gahanna Lincoln 15.53, Dre'Ameerha Walker of Wayne 15.76, Caitlyn Schmiedebusch of Troy 16.00, Chrishna Butler of Gahanna Lincoln 16.01 and Brooklyn Mikesell of Miamisbur 16.14 round out the top 100 hurdlers.
300 Meter Hurdles
Weideman of Springboro (46.72 4th, has gone 45.94), jackie Etson of Centerville (6th 47.63), and Caitlyn Schmiedebusch of Troy (48.56 7th ) return.
Walker of Wayne owns a personal best of 46.05, Horning of Mason has gone 46.44, Sydney Stokes of Gahanna Lincoln has gone 46.76, Evan Bartlett of Fairmont 47.34, Mikesell of Miamisburg pr of 47.22, Anna Bailes of Sycamore has gone 47.59.
Shuttle Hurdles
This could be an epic battle with defending champion Mason with Fairmont, Troy and Wayne. All four teams return the core of their relays from last year, where 1st-3rd place was separated by .76 seconds. Wayne is the state leader with a time of 63.23, Mason has the 3rd best time in the state 64.84, but Gahanna Lincoln has gone 65.06, which is 4th best in the state, while Fairmont has gone 65.05, good for 5th best in the state. This event will have 4 of the top 5 teams in the state, so if you're a hurdle lover, this might be one to watch! The meet record (set last year) is 64.49.
Distance
This could be the best distance talent ever assembled at the Wayne Invitational, which is saying a lot! Athletes that have graced this event have been Springboro's Carly Hamilton, Mason's Angela Bizzari and Monica Lake, Julie Arcuso of Miami East, Kaite Landwehr of Tipp City, Megan Wright of Miamisburg, Hayley Stegemiller of Lebanon just to name a few.
Leading the distance "clash of the titans" will be Beavercreek's Sydney Leiher, Oakwoods Mary Kate Vaughn, Lauren Hoover of Hilliard Davidson, Mason's Lauren Wood and West Liberty Salem's Meghan Vogel. Here's a closer look:
800 Meter Run
Leiher is defending champion, going 2:18.55 last year. Lauren Hoover of Hilliard Davidson 2:19.84 (3rd last year), Bridghett McElhenny of Mason (2:23.45 6th ), Delany McDowell (2:23.72 7th , has gone 2:21.81) and Cc Salzman of Centerville (2:24.57 8th) are the top returnees.
Watch for Eaton's Michelle McKinney, she owns the 2nd fastest time in the state right now at 2:16.41, Lebanon's Jacquelyn Crow has gone 2:19.00(currently 4th in the state), Micaela DeGenero of Granville has goen 2:21.56, Olivia Gaus of Mason 2:22.58, Meghan Vogel of West Liberty Salem 2:22.76, Sara Robinson of Lebanon 2:24.22, Abbie VanFossen of Lakota East 2:24.79, Allison Sinning of Tipp City 2:25.83, Keaton Case of Springboro 2:25.93, and Kiersten Hook of Wayne 2:26.01 (has gone 2:19.13). This race has 15 girls that have run 2:26 or better!
ELITE 1600 Meter Run
Leiher is defending champ 5:01.06, but coming back will be Hoover from Hilliard Davidson (5:09.19), Jacquelyn Crow from Lebanon (5:10.51 5th, 5:05.44 pr), Rachel Mahle of Springboro (5:12.92 6th ), Heather Sandvik of Westerville North (5:14.30 7th ), and McEhlenny of Mason (5:15.40 8th)
This is going to be a matchup between Leiher (has gone 4:56.10 this year), Hoover of Hilliard Davidson (5:01.07 personal best), Mary Kate Vaughn of Oakwood (has gone 5:03.42), Lauren Wood of Mason (5:10.46) and Meghan Vogel who owns a best of 4:58.31. Don't forget about Tipp City's Allison Sinning 5:11.60, Sycamore's Samantha Siler has gone 5:13.53, Abbie VanFossen of Lakota East 5:15.55, Michelle McKinney of Eaton 5:16.70, Mackie Keller of Oakwood (5:17.34), Leah Ford of Mason 5:18.24, Maegan Murphy of Mason 5:19.53, Kelly Mcmanus of Lakota West 5:20.06, and Alyssa Atkinson of Granvillle 5:20.64. That's 16 athletes under 5:20. The meet record of 4:58.88, held by Springboro's Carly Hamilton is definitely in jeopardy.
ELITE 3200 Meter Run
Lindsey Myers of Princeton is top returner, placing 2nd last year in 11:07.28, as well as Mahle of Springboro (11:11.04 3rd), teammate Lycia Hollon was 5th (11:19.84), Heather Sandvik of Westerville was 8th in 11:31.82. Lauren Wood of Mason has the best time in the state right now at 10:35.64.
Last year, Woods teammate Monica Lake set the meet record, running 10:57.19. Vaughn of Oakwood has gone 10:36.03, Leiher has gone 10:50.05 (has gone 10:43.30), Samantha Siler of Sycamore has gone 10:53.74, Crow of Lebanon 11:00.96 (has gone 10:48.13). That's five girls under 11 minutes. Kelsey Sandlin of Gahanna Lincoln has gone 11:18.62, Sammie Zishka of Lancaster has gone 11:19.85, Allison Sinning of Tipp City has gone 11:28.13, Mackie Keller of Oakwood 11:30.01 and Leah Ford of Mason 11:32.44.
Distance Medley Relay 1200-400-800-1600
Mason has the state's best time in 12:23.73, followed by Lebanon 12:44.49 4th best, Centerville 12:59.83 8th best, Westerville North 13:04.43 11th best, Sycamore 13:09.69, Hilliard Davidson 13:15.38, and Springboro 13:18.51 round out the top teams. Mason could challenge their meet record of 12:33.66 which they set last year.
4x800m Relay
Alter returns 3 of their four members from last year's championship relay. However, Mason owns the state best time of 9:31.05, Westerville North has gone 9:41.80, Oakwood has gone 9:49.14, Springboro has gone 9:52.82, Centerville has gone 9:53.49, Sycamore 9:52.82, Lebanon has gone 9:57.07, West Liberty Salem 10:00.89, Alter 10:01.05 and Hilliard Davidson 10:06.66 round out the top teams.
Field Events
Pole Vault
Fairmont's Natalie Uy owns an indoor best of 12 feet and outdoor best of 11 feet 6 inches. Defending Champion Samantha Shook has gone 11 feet, as well as Centerville's Sydney Kay and Granville's Paige Keller. Maddie Picou of Gahanna Lincoln has cleared 10-10, while Mason's Rachel Stein has cleared 10-6, Greenville's Harmony Kollng has gone 10-3.
Clearing 10 feet are Mason's Sydney Sloan, Abby Brinkman, and Kendra Thomas of Lakota East. Megan Etgen of West Liberty Salem, Troy's Mariah Sano, Xenia's Megan Taylor, and Centerville's Amber Blackmore all have cleared 9 feet 6 inches. That's 14 girls over 9-6.
High Jump
6 of the top 8 placers return, led by defending champion Jordan Horning of Mason (went 5-2, but has gone 5-5.5 already this year). Also clearing 5-2 last year were Natalie Uy (5-6 personal best) of Fairmont, Leah Duniven (5-5 personal best )of Miami East, and Abbey Saurine of Carroll.
Aly McNulty of Northmont and Molly Balcer of Hilliard Davidson both cleared 5-0 to place top 8.
Ashley Wenz of Springboro has gone 5-5, Troy's Ashley Rector has gone 5-3, Christine Sheppard and Reyna Montgomery of Gahanna Lincoln both have gone 5-2. , Mason's Meredith Haller, Fairmont's Evan Bartlett have also gone 5-2, while Beavercreek's Gabrielle Markley has gone 5-1. Clearing 5-0 are Oakwood's Annie Stuckey, Molly Balcer of Hilliard Davidson, Tara Guillozet of Greenville, Cara Maxi of Centerville, and Aubrey Beck of Westerville North. That makes 18 girls that have cleared over 5 feet.
Long Jump
7 of the top 8 placers return, led by Mitchell of CJ 17-10.5 (who has gone 18 feet this year already), which was 2nd last year, Troy's Ashley Rector was 3rd, leaping 17-8.5, followed by Madison Gallagher of Hilliard Davidson 17-4.75, Uy of Fairmont 16-9.5 (pr of 18-2.5), Nicole Broner of Centerville (16-6.75), Katie Abrahamowicz of Carroll (16-3.5), and Alyssa Armora of Mason (16-2), going 4th-8th respectively.

Ashley Rector of Troy is top returning jumper, 34-3.5, which was 3rd last year, Alyssa Marmora of Mason was 4th in 32-06, Shaeyla Givens of Northmont was 5th in 32-2.75, Cc Wilson of Mason was 6th in 31-5.5, while LizzieThomas was 8th with a leap of 30-6.5.
So far this year, Wayne's Ayanna Williams has gone 33-9, while Strodes of Xenia has gone 34-10.5, Larissa Johnson of Centerville has gone 33-3, while teammate Basha Ramsey has gone 32-4, Sydney Stokes of Gahanna Lincoln has gone 31-10, and Wayne's Ashley Richardson has gone 31-6.
Shot Put
Miami East's Leah Dunivan was runner up last year, throwing 37-4.5 (owns personal best of 39-10), Tia Jones of Chaminade Julienne was 6th with a toss of 35-6.25 (owns personal best of 39-2.25), Jamila Latham of Princeton was 7th with a toss of 35-2, and Wayne's Dajsha Avery was 8th with a 35-0 toss (has gone 40-3).
Ashley Brown of Mason has gone 38-11, Marlena Clark of Miamisburg has gone 38-5.25, Centerville's Shannon Coffee has gone 37-10.25, Wayne's A'reyna Hughes has gone 36-5.5, and Kayla Patterson of Fairborn has gone 36-1.5.
Discus
Event champion Brianna Jumper returns, she threw 114-2 last year. Erionna Bush of Centerville was second in 113-5, Taylor Shepperd of Mason was 4th in 107-11, while Tia Jones of Chaminade Julienne was 7th with a toss of 105-3.
Jumper, now throwing for Wayne, has gone 132-11, while teammate Dajsha Avery has gone 123-7, Eaton's Caitlin Highley has gone 117-8, Centerville Erionna Bush has gone 117-7, Libby Burkhart of Defiance has gone 117-0, and Ashley Brown of Mason round out the top throwers with a toss of 109-7.
Hammer Throw
6 of the top 8 throwers, along with defending champion Rachel Aikens of Wayne returns. Also returning are Tia Jones of Chaminade Julienne, Antonia Arnold and Jordan Hall of Centeville, Jessica Blake and Jumper of Troy.
Wayne's Dajsha Avery owns the state's best toss at 132-6, Jumper has gone 118-8, while Centervilles Shoshana Isis Trotman has gone 101-1.
